Personal Printer Recommendations

I need a new printer. Suggestions?

I think I've had enough of color inkjets, unless there's a good reason to keep using them. I think our Brother all-in-one sniffs ink after dark.

Btw, I went out for an emergency run for some replacement cartridges..again!! Office Depot and Staples both looked like they're in some sort of pre-death status. Is there something going on with them? Both didn't have the ink I needed, and shelves were not fully stocked. They should probably replace some light bulbs, too.

ET-4760

About $400. I got mine on sale and they gave me money off for a trade in. Ended up $340

Biggest thing is the ink. What it came with should last about 2 years. If you buy a cheap printer you pay 60-80 per set of ink. In two years your about even. And a full set of ink is about $60

I like the thought of laser. The cartridges last, right? Especially when it hasn't been used for a while, hopefully.

Technically, laser/LED page printers have a minimum duty cycle/month. Presumably because the powdered toner can cake up due to humidity is my best guess.

Having said that, I've never met that minimum (or rarely) and never had an issue with it.

For quite some time, I generally curled my lip at inkjets due to their drying/clogging issues and the price of cartridges--but they seem to have gotten the clogging issues under control. While I still prefer laser for quality printing and permanence, they do consume more power and the consumables aren't generally quite as easily available.

It's become a tossup for the way guys like us typically use them.

I use a brother 9970 cdw. When my wife prints for her students she prints 30 pages at a time. So we went big.

Re: Personal Printer Recommendations

I bought a Dell color laser about 5 years ago for $100. Still cranking out pages without issues. I get the toner on ebay for about $20 for the whole set.

Re: Personal Printer Recommendations

Had a basic Brother laser printer for years. Wore it out. Upgraded to the Brother (something) does copies and scans.
The laser printers use toner, which is basically powder, so it doesn't go bad. I am supposed to get about 2500 pages per cartridge. I don't know, but it goes a long time.

I wouldn't recommend anything else. Bought one for my wife and my daughter.

I wanted to upgrade to a color laser printer. The thing is, you need to buy a toner cartridge for each color. Black, red, yellow, blue. That's $400 in toner. Sure it will last a while, but then I'm into it for $600.

+1 on the Brother recommendations. I've found the HP OfficeJet Pro to be reliable, but it is pricier.

Re: Personal Printer Recommendations

We ordered a second tray for ours. One tray only has pages with my letterhead on it for contracts and such.

This is my pick.

Cant say enough good things about it. One of those you just use and forget about it. Never seems to run out of ink. And the cheapest print sheet cost.
Duplex printing. And can print on card stock for the rare occasion.

The cheaper brother ones are also great. This is just a step up and even better.

Also if you use. Brothers are the best for printing just one envelope quick and fast. After you write a letter and need to mail.
