Pennies Are Worthless

And so are quotes and or invoices with them... Seriously tracking pennies is mind numbing. If a sub sends me a quote with pennies I just round down. The 37 cents goes to my time to strike through the numbers. Anyone feel they can justify quoting or billing in pennies.. I don't get it.

Re: Pennies Are Worthless

Local restaurant I always have breakfast at - price ends on the dollar or half dollar - menu says "all prices reflect taxes included".

I always shuck pocket change into empty 1 pound coffee containers (which are no longer 1 pound).

For awhile I sorted all the pennies into separate containers. Two full containers at the local store change machine netted $56.

Two full containers of just average mix of change netted $183.

Pennies matter for internal purposes. Not worth a broke dog dik otherwise.

I'm sure rounding down could be construed as stealing. Especially when you round down 7 cents. And you are altering a contract.

It can come in handy if you are 3 cents cheaper than the next guy,

If that makes or brakes getting a job I don't want the customer anyhow.

I sometimes will put pennies in my final bill...especially the pita customer who has been penny-wise and dollar foolish.

I was given one of these many years ago. believe it or not, it works really well and the batteries have lasted as long as I've had it. Tells you instantly how much you have in the jar.

I have one too. My kids broke it in a week. Somehow snapped the little arm off inside the slot that sizes the coin. But the battery is still working 7 years later.

That's neat, don't recall seeing one in a physical store, or I would have bought it for the novelty.

I can't stand stuff in my pokets, on my wrist, around my neck.

So I always keep a couple plastic cans in the truck.

The local grocery store has one of those change to cash machines. Charges a whopping 12% but its fun anyway.

Sometimes I cash & spend, sometimes I cash & hand it over to somebody's charity.

Was just curious what all pennies were worth compared to the usual mixture.

Decades ago, the 2nd ex-wife & I moved & left behind a 5 gal drinking fountain bottle filled with pennies because we couldn't lift it.

Back then, there weren't any coin sorting machines and I knew we would never take the effort to do it.

Re: Pennies Are Worthless

I used to save pennies and packed the wrappers and took them to the bank. Everything was cash for me in those days so it didn't take long. Your bank should have the machines nowadays. These days I seldom use cash but when I do it's mostly to thin down the coin collection. Somehow I can never get caught up.

Re: Pennies Are Worthless

Before the tolls around here all went to electronic collection i used to take all of my pennies and count 40 of them and place them into separate sandwich bags to dump when I had to stop to pay a toll. Great way to get rid of them and use them for something useful

of course now they doubled the price of the tolls and everything is electronic so Pennies are more of a pain in the ass then they’re worth

For some, to the penny reflect precision and honesty. My electrician does it and it doesn't bother me nor him, since excel does the hard work.

When writing a check...what's the mind-numbing difference between writing

.37/100

or

.00/100

Up North here, we resolved this issue a couple of years ago.
For Cash purchases, the payable amount is rounded up or down to the closest nickle.
Pennies are no longer circulated or made.
Non-cash transactions are for actual value. ie: debit cards. cheques

You guys dumped all your damn pennies on us. Seemed like I was getting Canadian pennies everywhere I went this weekend in Detroit.
