Parking tickets are not tax deductible nor are any fines or penalties paid to the government

Re: Parking Tickets

Bill them to the job. When I worked in Chicago each job got 500-1000 dollars worth of parking added to them. Some parking fees, some tickets.

Re: Parking Tickets

I did a job in NYC and told the client that they were responsible for any parking violations. It's almost impossible not to get them because they limit the time you can be in a parking spot to 2hrs. But for the whole job I wasn't ticketed so they didn't have to pay anything. Luck of the draw.

Re: Parking Tickets

Dude, I'd love to bill these rich folks for parking tickets but I don't think they'd go for it. They're living in a 2.5 Mil house right on Fisherman's Wharf and they sweat me for charging 2 hours to set and case a door with plinth. Its in the basement, you have to go out back to turn a board around. What do you want from me!?

Re: Parking Tickets

Part of the job. Just like clean up. It gets billed because it's part of the job.

Re: Parking Tickets

There are just some places that limit parking and make it nearly impossible to conduct all day business. I actually brought a 3rd man with me so they could deal with the parking if need be.

If you know in advance you're going to get them and have an idea of what they're going to cost, just add it to the estimate before signing the job... cost it under admin/misc in Materials or Overhead... or increase your Profit margin to accommodate it (like PITA upcharges)... many ways to do/account for it... as CODB or if you want to line item it...

But remember, ALL costs go through the customer... how do you think everyone else pays them? While you can't write them off as a business expense, you can include their costs in what you charge your customer...

If you don't get any tickets, up to you if you want to refund the customer, or hold it for inaccurate parking ticket estimates for other jobs... or to make up for unanticipated job costs...

They are saying it's a 4th amendment thing. If they want to chalk your tire they need a warrant

Re: Parking Tickets

In DC, they enter your tag number in a little hand held device, it records the time and zone you are parked in.
They then can issue a ticket even if you move the vehicle to another location which is still in the same zone.

When we have disputed the ticket we are told it is 2 hours time limit in the zone.

I can park for 10 minutes, if the enforcement guy comes by, scans the tag, then I leave and come back in a few hours I could get a ticket.

In Palo Alto CA they have the same system, with zones, no individual spaces. So you have to move to another "zone".

For San Francisco, we charge $150.00 per day to park. You can get a contractor's permit parking badge for about $1000.00 per year per vehicle and park in any yellow(commercial) or non colored space for as long as you want. But you have to have your business name and license number on your commercially plated vehicle. Oh, and you have to have paid for a SF business license too.

I build the $150 into my price for the project, so it is not line item ed out.

The bad thing in SF is that all the Uber and Lyft drivers take up all the parking zones and especially the yellow commercial ones as they wait for their next call. They only move if a parking control officer comes by, or they get that next call. This cuts the available commercial parking spaces down by 50% to 80%.
