Joist App

I was really liking the joist app and apparently they finally figured out how good it really was so joist requires you to upgrade to the pro version apparently to get all the features now.

I was trying to send out an estimate and I learned that You canít attach a photo anymore for free plus several other features are gone

$11.99 a month for the pro version or $119 a year

Damm

I was about ready to start using QuickBooks online and was wondering if it has similar features with estimates and invoices on it? I have never use QuickBooks before

Knew something was wrong. Tried attaching a pic like 5 times last week. Thought it was my app

Yes same here, I was having trouble recently attaching pictures as well

I wouldnít mind paying a flat fee to upgrade however in my opinion 12 bucks a month is a little steep for a simple app like that

That's a bummer. I'd like to keep using it but another monthly payment doesnt sound great.

Quickbooks let's you send estimates, invoices, and payment receipts. You can customize templates to add logos and add/remove things to your liking. Not sure how the online version works. For me personally, the desktop version was a better investment, although a lot of the online and app features would be nice.

Online one does the same. You can also link bank accounts and assign expenses to specific jobs now. They have an app on MacBook and IPhone so you have everything with you.

Iíve been running it for 5 years now

Where I think the phone app would really shine (other some obvious things like quickly adding receipts) is change orders. Send it right from the jobsite to get a quick response.

It really makes life easier. I send some estimates from the truck before I leave a lot of quotes.

I heard the online version is nice since it update the bank info automatically

With QuickBooks online estimating and invoicing can I add photos to the invoice/estimate like on the joist app?

I do a lot of little jobs and that is really nice to be able to do before and after photos since some of my GCs have no idea what i am billing them for (small repair work)

See thatís what I liked about the joist app (not having QuickBooks) because I have a lot of downtime at my primary job and I am able to shoot off a quick estimates or invoice during my downtime at work all from my phone

Ya you can add pictures and attachments. They call it notes.

Even saves your past notes. For example when I quote a fence I send a picture of the fence style with the quote and just select it from the list of old notes.

Re: Joist App

What's great about QB is I can download all my business bank transactions from my bank into QB and categorize all my expenses. Then I send a file to my bookkeeper she downloads the file into her QB fixes all my mistakes and sends me back the file to download back into QB.

I have QB Premier that has the contractor version in it. Allows for change orders and everything else to be specific to contracting.

Re: Joist App

I got the email about the upgrade. I figured it was coming. They still have several bugs they can't work out. I've spoken to them, about it, on 3 occasions. They still can't fix it. The photos were very handy. I also like the electronic signature feature. I also liked having my contract attached automatically.

I've done a few in Quickbooks. Suppose I'll have to work with it more. I can add my contract, but I have to add it as an attachment. I don't know about photos. I had gotten in the habit of adding photos. I also invoiced a customer, from my phone, this week. Worked out good.

There are some others out there. I looked at one from someone on here. Nathan maybe. It wasn't as easy to use, so I didn't spend much time on it.

Re: Joist App

Just ran a test estimate. Everything is still working for me. Probably only a matter of time.

Re: Joist App

Honestly, even if you never send a single estimate or invoice through quickbooks you should get it anyway. Having easy access to P&L statements and some other stats are worth it's weight in gold.

Especially for me being fairly new to all this, I'm able to check numbers from time to time to see if I'm charging enough or not. Of course you have to keep things updated. My wife stays at home with our daughter and is pretty good about entering information.

Re: Joist App

I spoke too soon. My joist app is still working the way it always did. I think Iíll continue using even for the minimal monthly fee. Some weeks I send out 10-15 estimates.

Joist is somehow in cahoots with QB because you can link them together.
