Funny Customer Response Today

Today when a guy found out what I charged him for a service call he said "huh.................long pause........is there even a heaven for you guys?"

Man, I thought that was pretty funny.

On a serious note however, I re-thought my math and determined after taxes and expenses I didn't charge enough. Some people don't really understand the cost of business, they just see the big number and and think it's 100% profit.

Anyhow, I laughed when he said that.

Mike

You know what they say, tighten the screws until they start to scream, then back off a quarter turn. Sounds like your pricing is set just about right.

Try this one when you get a chance. Customer says, "I think that's high."

Loneframer says, "I think you're high."

From another forum, but one of my favourite lines.

M: Ok. Thanks for calling. Help with what?

C: Well my husband and his friend cut a hole in our family room ceiling to fix a leak in the roof. Now I have a hole in my ceiling & my husband can't figure out how to make the trim fit right.

M: Was there trim there before?

C: No, they just cut a hole in the ceiling to get up to the leak.

M: Ok. Where are you located? I can probably get to this Monday or Tuesday next week.

C: Well, we need it done by lunch on Friday (its Wednesday afternoon). We have an appraiser coming over. We already have the trim you'll need. We just need you to make the corner-thingy cuts and put it up.

M. Ok....I can probably get there Friday mid morning. I'll do it T&M. It's $100 for the first hour, $40 each extra hour rounded to the next half-hour plus materials.

C: Wow. $100? That's kinda steep isn't it?

M: Ma'am, it costs more to take the ambulance to the hospital than it does to drive yourself there & you just called 911.

C: Ok. Friday what time.................

I saw a video once on how to handle these 10% of the people who cause trouble for the other 90%.
You're supposed to smoke out these "snipers" by asking "What do you mean by that?" as often as necessary to get them off you.

The long pause is a manipulative tactic. You're supposed to fill in the silence with something he can use, like a lower bid.
I had a guy call me who was an ambassador to a foreign country, had dinner with US presidents, blah blah. I know this 'cause I Googled him.
He tried that long silence stuff on me so I started leaving long pauses between my sentences, and soon he's saying "Are you still there?"
During my pauses I was making little doodles on a pad of this guy having sex with animals.
That ambassador was, and probably still is, a first class jerk.

The proper response is, "yes, with solid gold plumbing as far as the eye can see."

Re: Funny Customer Response Today

Did a bid on a deck about a month ago. Client wanted it done right away. So a week goes by and I get this email from the wife saying that her husband thinks the price is to high and that I need to lower it. I sent them back this response, keep in mind i've been getting hammered latly to do the work for less. My response " so what you are saying is that your deck is to big? " and left it at that. Three days later I get another email from the husband " well done! When can you start" I guess they all have to try to get better pricing
