Buisness Name Change

We have recently (2013) incorporated the business from a sole proprietorship for obvious reasons and advantages.

We were unable to incorporate with the name "South Shore Construction" so we are using "South Shore Remodeling". Not really a huge change but I had just recently really started to get used to the old name, i believe we were starting to push brand awareness with the community, lawn signs, truck lettered, sweatshirts, tshirts, hats and website!

Im having alot of thoughts on whether the change is going to have any negative effects on the business, or am I over thinking the whole issue. The logo is able to remain the same which is huge. but everything else has to change or be re-lettered. Bank accounts, checks, paperwork all has to have the appropriate changes. The website will have to be reworked to the new name.

Have any of you gone through this and what did you do to ease the transition. What do you guys think of the change? is it a big deal or is my OCD making me for no reason.

Erik,

While your name is a big part of your brand, it's not your brand. You are your brand. Press Releases are great for this type of announcement. Blowing up social media and blogs are great as well. You just need to tell the truth, that you are taking the next steps in growth and the name change was required for incorporation.

Re: Buisness Name Change

I generally dont like changes and I like a systematic approach to everything.

I strive for the best with everything and im not exactly sold on this name change.

I do plan on informing all clients both past and present. And have been looking for places to put large signs IE intersections train stations parks etc. Just havent found any yet.

Re: Buisness Name Change

Before I stopped doing remodeling to focus on loading docks, I was using the trade name South Shore Remodeling.

I had a website SouthShoreRemodeling.com it is now off. I think I still own the domain name, and my web guy has it parked while he looks for a buyer.

I really do not care if I get anything for the domain name. I can arrange for you to get it for free if you would like.

Yes. But there is somone using south Shore construction in the next county over and I would prefer to avoid any legal issues.

I'm getting used to it. Already started thinking about other changes I'm going to implement during this transition. Going to try and market us to high end clients. Getting bored with the same old- white trim and paint. Market towards those focused on quality and not so much on price.

Keeping the same phone # for many years is the best, even if you have to pay xtra for it.
I have had the same one for 25 years
