Bookkeeping Embezzler

I know a couple businesses that got clipped like this. The temptation can be too great for some, I guess.

She worked for a Fredericksburg, VA contractor.

I know someone who’s office manager took $450k. Most likely more but owner realized IRS was going to visit since police reported it as a cash theft

KAP -

That’s the first thing I thought.

Her lifted A$$ should be in jail until she pays the cash bail, and turns in the wedding dress and ATV.

Re: Bookkeeping Embezzler

It always amazes me how greedy these folks get.

Not that it would be right anyway, but how do you think you will get away with a wedding dress and an ATV. Would no one notice. Plus vacations and other big ticket items.

It would be maybe understandable, or at least you could have some empathy if it was to save a sick kid or something. But to just buy crap you can't afford is just pure greed.

Not sure how people do this. It takes a certain type of greed.

I'm not saying I've never bought pizza or office lunches with an employer's card or something like that, but I think that is a different level. And we would always let them know as the boss was eating it. Always good for a laugh.

Re: Bookkeeping Embezzler

Some companies don't call in the police for embezzling, it's just bad press.

Customers and suppliers can get nervous if they know you took a crippling hit.

Re: Bookkeeping Embezzler

Guess I will edit the entire post!

Doesn't make sense. The previous bookkeeper stole $150,000. The boss is still not watching his business and the next bookkeeper charges $34,000 on credit card plus $10,000 from writing her own checks.

I have a fetish against husbands and business owners who think they are the world's greatest money generators and when they should be monitoring and managing their money they act like they are too important and too busy to have anything to do with something as menial as putting a finger into setting up, monitoring and managing their money and accounting.

I've seen it happen too many times where a husband has his wife do the books and the husband has no clue about how much money he is earning nor how much money he owes and eventually when the poop hit the fan the wife is blamed and 100% responsible for all money problems.

It seems that this secretary thought this company had so little control that she could get away with her spending. Maybe, she really thought the credit card was a perk with no limit.

Why would any business owner give an employee a credit card with such a high limit?

How long was this person spending excessive money on the card?

Why did it take the company so long to find out.

Very strange story. This accountant has a credit card limit higher than the credit card my entire company uses. I think my credit card limit is $20k.

Cedarboarder,

You’d think he would have noticed the $8,000 ass and taken a closer look at things.

I must be getting old. Correction. Yes, I now see the total embezzlement was $93,000. What is the $8000 comment about other than the bail amount?

I will still hold my ground that there is something wrong with any contractor who has a $150k embezzlement and then the replacement employee embezzles him for $93,000.

I am sure you heard the saying, "They screw you once, shame on them. They screw you twice, shame on you."

Sad thing is, the cops and court system doesn't give a rip about crimes against business and usually let them go with a slap on the wrist. Break in that embezzlers house and steal their $250 TV and they will lock you up and throw away the key.
