The mid rise buildings 4-8 stories I have worked in had the roof drains/ gutters lead to 6"-8" vertical pvc pipe which went directly to the storm sewers. Which were installed by the plumbers, the gutter guys installed the gutters with scuppers at the ends of the pipe.

My 1997 RS Means R-C remodel guide had 4.25$/ft for al. 5
" K-style with O&p....... for second story work...

5" K style COPPER was only ~10.00$ a foot......

Re: Six Story Gutter Cost

I'd rather work 6 stories up on a lift than 2 stories off an extension ladder.

Re: Six Story Gutter Cost

I know a paint contractor that got lifts to paint a multifamily complex instead of setting up staging. End of the first week they rolled over the water main; shutting off water to 150 apartments. $40k to fix. Then they did it again.

That's super cheap.

You'll most likely get the job with those numbers.

dam you guys work cheap....

you have lost control of the job w/owner supplied lift....

what kind of lift?

who came up with the 6" gutter?

is it calc'd for the roof area & potential runoff?

what about your rwl's? material/size/termination/how many?

do you have a detail or spec on the gutters, mounting etc?
I concur with Slickwilly on this. Should the project run longer and the owner be required to rent the lift longer than anticipated is he doing to backcharge you for the unanticipated rental expense? What if one of your guys gets hurt on it due to a mechanical failure, are you privy to going after the rental company since you didn’t contract with them to start with? Does your insurance policy allow for working that high? I’ve seen some with lower limits capping working height to three stories.

Sorry - I’m a new kid on the block and certainly not trying to step on anyone’s toes. I’ve found that sometimes having a fresh perspective on things isn’t necessarily a bad thing either.

I notice your trade says control systems. I doubt you'd feel this way dangling a long piece of gutter in the breeze 6 stories up.

You'd be surprised at how a little breeze can mess up your day. I've had 70-80 foot pieces nearly blow over on the run out stands on the ground.
We've installed using 2 lifts and 2 or 3 guys and wind can definitely be a hindrance. It seems to me that the higher you go up, the more active the wind is. And this was on jobs nowhere near the height the OP is talking.
