Screen Guards For Gutters

What do u guys suggest using them or not I would assume that enough leaves could fall and actually cover up the screen and prohibit water from entering them maybe do more harm then good sometimes?

Re: Screen Guards For Gutters

In my years in business I've found that often a gutter cover is much more costly than the gutter itself. I don't live in a high dollar area so that basically equals no sales of an expensive product.
So over the years I've used Raytec. Kind of strikes a balance between a product that does the job but isn't super expensive. I've sold a lot of it. But it isn't a total answer and I tell customers up front that I won't install it if pine needles are the problem.
As far as the FNG comments, I guess some started out immediately as a seasoned veteran in their chosen trade.

Re: Screen Guards For Gutters

I use the plastic, snap on guards for my home. I think they are 3' long.
I have maples around the house and they protect against the "helicopter" seed and the leaves.

They still need to be removed and the gutters cleaned out every few years as the stuff that does get in decomposes.

I did a lot of research for another home a few years ago. I don't think there is a cure-all gutter guard...especially if you have pine needles.

You'd be amazed what the people around here are willing to pay for topper, helmet etc. I'm sometimes uncomfortable hitting send on an estimate.

That's kind where I'm at. Not comfortable at all telling someone that a cover is $8-9 per foot or more when the gutter was not near that.
Some products I think the $8-9 would be my cost. Imagine what it is after even a small markup to install!
I've tried a few different products on my own home to test them. A couple I'm sure would do a little better job then what I now use, but the cost and the fact that they're 5 feet long screws with my normal spacing of hangers.

I clean out a lot of gutters, the worst ones usually have gutter guards. I would not have them.

My thoughts also.
Further ..... If you can do without gutters all together, eliminate them.

Exactly why I won't sell them to areas with pine needle problems. They seem to defeat most anything.
I no longer clean gutters. There's not much money in it and some of the ones I've seen are full of black composted goo and have 6 inch saplings growing in them. And usually the people who want gutter cleaning were not my customers to begin with. I tell them to call their installer, I don't repair the other guys' problems.

Gutter Guard is what my guy uses. Didn't consider not getting them when buttered my house when I built it, or when I bought my in-laws gutters for Christmas. We all try l

I have never built anything I didn't gutter I don't think except my barn. Splash up on the exterior stucco/masonry? Yard damage? Getting water into pipes away from a foundation? All important imo
