I havenít seen a non Hispanic roofer here in more than a decade. 4 of my neighbors just did theirs done. Rip, re sheet some, and roof by 4pm. These guys stop for at least 45 min to eat their Chinese food though.

Not just a minority here. There are none. Many of the Hispanic crews do speak English or at least have one that does.

Re: Reasons To Build Roofs Over 4/12 Pitch? (more Dangerous)

There is an old quote, I forget by whom, about culture defining architecture.

This has been the case for all of human history, until about the 1950's.

Roof pitch, like foundations, were determined by many factors, mainly weather, with aesthetics only being one of them.

In heavy snow country, roofs were always steep. Look at the Chalets in Switzerland.

Desert country regularly had flatter roofs. A lot of evening and night time living took place on the roofs of houses in the desert.

Then there are zoning rules, aesthetics, financial reasons, personal propensities, availability of local labor and skill, etc., that all came into play.

And then there's the fact that 12/12 scares me, so I try not to build those.

We used extra nails and adhesive in this high wind area of Oxford for the same reason as for the steep pitches - keep the shingles from blowing the eff off the roof.

Multi million dollar homes on the ocean look. In fact there's many glass and beam homes in those areas.
Mobile homes with a view then.
