Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

I am putting my final number together for a project I'd like to upsell.

My customer said that he "never wanted to do this again "

The cheaper option is still with a higher than standard grade product, that I am confident will stand the test of time. Malarkey Legacy

I think with the caliber of the house that if i put Malarkey Windsor's, the same shingle i put on my house. A lifetime thick designer shingle, that will require steel valleys and takes much longer to install. I will be giving him a bulletproof roof system. It will come at a nearly $11,000 upcharge.

I am thinking that i will include a 15 maybe 20 year craftsmanship warranty. Just wondering what the pros and cons are of this.

About 3-4 years ago i was including 5 year warranties, but seems like some people call you back for absolutely everything that has nothing to do with the roof. I.E. soffitt, ice dams because there tennants have it 90 in their bathroom, etc.

I dont get that vibe from the guy at all, and have total confidence in the product and my installation that i wont have any problems.

Thoughts?

Re: Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

i have never understood the "craftsmanship warranties".

what are you warranting, that you installed the correct product, correctly according to the manufacturers instructions for the situation and according to codes, plans & specs.

so if there is a failure what exactly failed? the product itself?

what constitutes a craftsmanship warranty and who will determine what failed & how?

It means if if 3 shingles get blown off I will show up to replace them, or if the stink pipe is leaking I will show up and handle that.

If the system fails, then it's getting the manufaturer called out to inspect and that whole process begins. So yes. I am warranting that I am installing said products to their written specifications.

Here the standard is one year. I wrote it up for him as 5 for the mid grade product and 15 for the Windsor's.

imo, sell the upgrade for what it is and what he will get.

longevity, appearance, added value to property etc.

an "extended" workmanship warranty over your standard warranty would make me ask what are you doing different on the upgraded job?

the level of workmanship should be the same whether you are installing 3 tab or the malarkeys.

imo, a shingle blowing off or a dwv pipe leaking at the flashing penetration are NOT a workmanship issues.

Re: Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

I'd call it a maintenance warranty that covers minor repairs up to the manufacture's warranty kicking in. Getting paid up front to take care of what you normally just do for the "golden" customers you'd do it for free for.

Re: Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

A quality product should pretty much sell itself, particularly with an enthusiastic pro who is able to point out all the benefits.

I already offer a lifetime craftsmanship warranty on my work. Show me a job I did 15 years ago wasn't done to meet or exceed standards at that time, and I'll happily redo it at no charge. Quality (good or bad) isn't time-dependent.

Re: Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

I never change a customer for small stuff. And I always come to the call. Had a lady call me from 10 years ago telling her deck lights are no longer working. I went there replaced the transformer that was way out of warranty. Didn't charge her a dime. Those things pay dividends. I ended up building a nice deck for her parents.

Re: Long Term Craftsmanship Warranty

I think when you get into 5 and 15 year expected warranties, you could be in for a lot of headaches.

In 15 years a lot can happen.

Ok so i went your route. I deleted the warranty lines completely. Showed him the high end product, their benefits, told him the other option would last but if he wanted bulletproof...that the Windsor was it.

He is going to talk to his wife but is pretty sure its going to be the good stuff.

Did not bat an eye at the price
