Benjamin Obdyke Cedar Breather


My client asked a question I can't really answer having never used the cedar breather. I always use skip sheathing. He's doing 1x4 T&G so it looks nice from underneath, then over that 3/4" ply, then the breather and then cedar shingles. I suggested the breather.

"I can understand how it will be open to air under the first row of shingles, but where will it be open to air at the top, since there is no ridge vent cap?'

these azumaya have copper flashing at the top where it meets the ridge, you can see it 2nd pic,

I donít think it needs to be vented at the top because it isnít a conditioned space you are trying to protect, you are just giving space to prevent capillary action similar to a rain screen on a wall
