5 Story BUR Roof Tear-off

I am bidding a tear-off of existing BUR and reroof of a 5 story attached apartment building on a busy city street. The only possible area to stage any equipment or dumpsters is right in front of the building on the sidewalk or street. What is my best bet to safely get the debris from the tear off of the old roof from the roof to the ground?

I think using a debris tube would work the best . See them used around here all the time.

trash chute, or crane. Even with a trash chute other safety precautions need to be in place for vehicles and pedestrians.

Self erecting small crane or scaffold and trash chute.

Re: 5 Story BUR Roof Tear-off

Pedestrian scaffold/walkway system. I come across this in Chicago all the time and it is illegal to block the sidewalk, period, so the pedestrian walk way scaffold becomes mandatory on jobs like this. To add more salt to the wounds, you have to be a city lciensed scaffolding erector and it aint cheap.

Then use a crane to erect a garbage chut down the wall and over the scaffold and right into the dumpster. You do know OSHA requies chutes or some other controlled means such as a crane or hoist on any tear off over 20' from the ground, correct?

I am pricing up a church in my area, 45 ft. to the gutter.
One side is a busy street. Ive priced it up with a trash chute run through pipe scaffolding sections into a dumpster on the sidewalk.

Re: 5 Story BUR Roof Tear-off

I was watching the roofers at Roberto Clemente highschool (I think, the high school in humboldt park) anyways, they were using a crane and it was like a 5 or 6 story building I think. The crane was up and down up and down up and down with trash tarps. It moved pretty quickly, but I don't know why they didn't use a chute. The ODD thing was it wasn't summer and school was still in session, or maybe it was summer school, but there were kids everywhere.

I agree,

Trash cute and walkway scaffold protection. In our area that would work best.
