1x8 Fascia Supporting A Super-gutter Issue

client has super gutters now ,
they`re replacing them with new
i`m to replace the water-damaged fascia behind it.
i removed the plywood soffit to look at what there

this fascia is a 1x8.
there is no " sub-fascia"
so the super gutter is held up only by this 1x8.
there's a 5/16 lag-bolt ( aprox 2-12" long running thru this fascia on the back end and not really doing much
on top of it , there's a screen-in enclosure mounted onto this super gutter

that cant be right ,can it?
so , i`m thinking i have to alert the client that we have to open up all the soffits , and install some kind of sub-fascia ( 2x4 or 2x6 , ) between all the truss-tails.
that`ll entail removing all the plywood that isn't bad to begin with

or i could maybe change the 1x8 to a 2x8, if i remove the 1x2 behind the drip-edge

suggestions?

Line up the new Gutter hangers with the rafter tails or put blocking between the rafters.

yea ,i got it .
i was calling the blocking a sub-fascia.

i`m going to have to do that, because i`m not doing the gutter work . i don`t know the guy.

or i guess i could mark it out for him where the tails are behind my fascia

thanks

It’s an extruded aluminum structural component “gutter” that we use in the south to normally support the house side of screened in enclosures.

Whoa! We finally stumped the resident gutter expert!!

Don’t worry though, when the company that makes them sells out and the new company renames it something different you can ask again a few years.

Those screen guys get paid from my understanding. Thought about trying it out in Florida

That’s the same thing the screen guys say about the gutter guys.

Re: 1x8 Fascia Supporting A Super-gutter Issue

I like the idea of blocking then you know the aluminum guys are going to hit wood, those gutters always fill with debris and never get cleaned out then they corrode out because you can not get to clean them out with out going on the roof.

One of the problems the gutter can be real long the one I just bid 57ft run

This one I am going to install PVC trim when we redo the screen and deck.

Re: 1x8 Fascia Supporting A Super-gutter Issue

i did talk to the gutter guy today .
and he agreed that he can hit the truss-tails .
he said he deals with it all the time.
he`ll remove the old ones , drop back , and let us replace the water damaged pieces (gonna use P.V.C. 1x8`s)

i just felt better running it by him ( and you guys)

this client has used me for about 15 years . their whole interior has been done by us , and they have been awesome.

she really appreciate it

Nope that's not going to hold you're going to have to tear the whole roof off and do it over. Bulldose the house.
