I'm waiting for those answers to. But I've seen bigger crews frame 5000 sqf houses in a day. But those are like 20 man crews

the best we've ever done was 2600 sqft two story in 2 1/2 days with 9 guys. But that was just stupid. We were building everything panelized in the road and them setting it in on top of everyone else. Crap and people everywhere, tripping over everything and everyone

Re: How Many Homes Have You Built

Not sure on the count, but I catch myself telling whoever that is riding with me..."I built one out here before". Or, "There's one I built back in (?)..."
Then, I've got some story to bore them to death about it.

That must be cool to watch. They must work like a really well oiled machine.

I never built or framed a house. I built a few sheds before, but no houses.

Re: How Many Homes Have You Built

i never had more then 3 crews going at a time it was to hard to keep up the last 8 years or so been doing 10000 sq ft an up only one at a time.
now after my van reck in april it is hard to even put on my tools.
all of my guy want me to stay in the house out of there way i tell them the office is like a jail cell after a day or so they all know the end is near.
the one we are doing now they poured the footing today 6 inches of snow to night never fails

Re: How Many Homes Have You Built

I keep one crew year round. Probably average 35-40 a year. Might do 5 under 2000 sq a year. Generally doing a house a week or better. Weather is the only slowing factor. 2.5 days on the current frame and almost ready for third floor.

Re: How Many Homes Have You Built

A few years ago I was offered a piece of the pie at a huge retirement building. It was during the colder months, so I took the job of installing soffits/drop ceilings through the entire building(47,000 square foot, I want to estimate), and we(4 guys), were there for 4 months just doing them damn things over and over and over... I was so sick and tired of doing them things, I thought my neck was going to fall off.

Re: How Many Homes Have You Built

I was thinking about this the other day. I started in 1987 building 1 house by 1993 I was averaging 30 per year, by 2001 70 a year, by 2008 Zero. They were all between 3000 and 10,000 sq ft. Ive been remodeling since the 2008 crash. So I guess somewhere between 500 and 1000. What got me thinking about it was I was underneath a house working one day and thinking I should be retired as many as I have built. But hey! I made it the same way I lost it. I feel lucky I did not loose it all and have found I am much happier keeping it small now.

Yep, I worked as a lead where we built 400 homes and were framing a house a day.

WTF kinda houses are these? Not much I'm guessing. We're fast but not that fast. There got to be a big difference between what we build

Uh, I'd expect some peeps on here were thinking the same thing about what you were reporting. And what several others stated of course.

There's no way to compare apples to apples unless you line them all up on the shelf first.

That said, I enjoyed the framing with an amazing well-tuned crew more than any work I've done before or since.
