Advantech Or Standard 3/4 OSB

I've been using Advantech forever, fantastic product, works great but, is it really worth the extra $? It is around $10/sheet more than standard 3/4 osb now. Zip system I can justify the extra money because it saves alot of time and is that much better of a product, but if you are gluing it down anyways? Thoughts?

If you can get it dried in before it's rained on, by all means save the money. I've seldom been able to do that.

That's the only reason I haven't switched yet.

I'm with you guys on that as well. I used standard LP 3/4" on a couple jobs for another GC, seems to me the quality has went down. A lot of pieces on top were peeling.

I don't like replacing glued down subfloor that's under walls. I'll use advantech.

OSB must vary by region. I always hear about OSB getting rained on and peeling and sounding like it's practically ruined. I've done jobs in OSB that were rained on for a week and didn't even need sanding.

Regular OSB is crap I'd use Advantech if it was $20 more a sheet!

Most builders around here use LP 250, some 350 and very rarely, 450. As long as you gap the ends like you're supposed to , its fine. Maybe a joint will have to be sanded here or there. Big deal. I have only seen advantech used on one home and it was a giant custom that took 14 months to frame. They used the 1 1/8 flooring and by the time they were dried in , some of the seams were so buckled you could practically trip over them. I think a lot of the results depend on the installation and building practices. Just my opinion

Re: Advantech Or Standard 3/4 OSB

I always use advantech. I let a piece in my back yard for 2 years covering a hole and even though it wS submerged in water a lot it was still stronger than standard OSB. It only started to swell up after about 3 months of sitting in water. Ended up about 1.5" thick after the 2 years though and it started at 3/4"

Who is paying for it, you or the customer?

Cheap is sometimes cheap.

Sell people on quality things that last and they will feel good about the cash they part with. Life is too short to solely focus on saving every single cent.
