Eave Returns..


Hi guys..on the net i came across this very interesting article.. http://www.thisiscarpentry.com/2013/...-gyhr-details/ it is a very nice explanation with some nice (and very bad..)example on how a eave return should look traditionally..do you guys make a lot of this in the US?i really see this detail on a new swedish houses very rare..do you an approach similar to this in the article?please put photos if you have thanks!

I read some of the article and while I admire the craftsmanship, the lack of rain gutters is just a non- starter here. We end up with a lot of the "pork chop" returns and even the more elaborate ones the crown effect is done with the gutters. eave returns..-imageuploadedbycontractortalk1429894923.738746.jpg

I always wondered why anyone would paint thier downspouts a different color then the home. Why would you want to draw attention to them?

When I visited Scotland, a lot of homes were made of stone. Some were several hundred years old. Needless to say they all had been plumbed during modern times. They ran the plumbing pipes on the outside of the walls, I assume because of the solid stone. Then most painted the pipes a different color then the home. Why on God's green earth would you highlight a sewer pipe?
