Kind of hard to do with the shower mixing valve sticking out the wall...

That's what I was thinking. Unless he treats like cutting drywall around a light box or something, but I don't see how that's practical with Marbelite

PEX lets you move all that out of the way. With copper you can do it if the inspector will do rough with it in place - the two plumbers I work with are OK with it.

Re: Drilling Marble Shower Walls?

I know I'm a little late to the party but I've had this and it's really easy. If you think about it, the hole for the valve doesn't have to be round. Most valve come with a throw away square plastic piece for the rough in. I stopped trying to make round cuts a long time ago. It's not necessary, so I use my Roto Zip with a diamond blade and make four nice neat cuts and move on.

Re: Drilling Marble Shower Walls?

roto zip works great, and a regular carbide hole saw works great too.

I guess you found out the need to support the material the hard way.

Experience is NOT the best teacher, but you generally don't forget it when you learn the hard way!

Thanks all.
we set the marble on 1.5" foam, used a carbide hole saw as suggested for both cuts. used a little spray water as well. Worked GREAT. all installed and I am happy its over!

Re: Drilling Marble Shower Walls?

the next panel was an accent panel with 2" x 2" groove patterns cut in it, about 12" high, and the final piece went to the ceiling. then there were 2 soap dish things in the corner. will see if I can remember to snap a pic of the completed job tomorrow.

Shower valve holes can be cut with an angle grinder in seconds. Doesn't have to be a perfect circle.

I put a sound system in a room with an "endless pool" last year, neat piece of equipment.
