I'm pretty sure I've done all that. I've certainly been known to have a nip or three.

You're not really missing anything...

Stick to coffee, it's a safer bet.

Curiosity question.
How many of you guys use a jig for the crown in the saw and how many just hold it?

Crown stops for me. Life was better after I started using them.

I use stops mostly or cut it flat. I'm actually surprised to see the number of videos where it's just held up.

I used to just hold it when I didn't know better. It's a waste of time in my opinion. Very hard to get repeatable positioning just holding it in position.

Re: Crown Moulding Installation

When my dad first showed me how to cut crown, he would bed the crown and mark the fence on the saw. That way each time you would make a cut, it was in the same place. The mark also allows you to make measuring blocks.

This is what I do. Just a piece of ply clamped to the extensions. You need consistency with cutting crown.

I have a jig I picked up at Menards. Makes it so much easier.

Re: Crown Moulding Installation

Stops for me as well. Used to cut nested with the marked fence method on small stuff, but now stops for everything.

I'm amazed how many YouTube videos there are with guys free handing it away from the fence like that crown moulding pro.com guy earlier in this thread. Seems like a recipe for losing fingers to me.

A lot of times its because its to complicated for guys to do it the other way. The upside down and backwards part intimidates them...they don't realize how simple it really is.

We don't have menards here but I use to shop at a store that had lots of items with their stickers on them so until it was mentioned here I thought it was a store that went out of business. I'll check it out
