Any suggestions on making my website more affective? My wife and I made it ourselves, but I would like some good input on how or if it can be made better.

Re: Website

My two cents....

It needs some color. Maybe not much but some.

IMO don't show pictures that leave a negative image. That one of the section of bad roof should go.

Now as for pictures.....

Get a better camera

and maybe a weekend class in photography or two at the local JC.

One last thing don't try & list everything you are capable of doing.
Maybe replace this line:

Roofing, Siding, Windows, Doors, Decks, Interior and Exterior Remodeling, Property Management
and so much more!

With something like this:

Contact us for a professional consultation and review of any needs or concerns you may have with your property or business. We are a full service construction & management company.

Re: Website

Griz, I was actually planning to change that to say " contact us for all of your remodeling needs" or something along those lines. What do you think?

Re: Website

I counted six code violations on that deck in the time I spent on it. Take those pics down. Also why bother having a twitter feed as a focal point if your last post was over 300 days ago..

Seems like you would be limiting your market segment by implying remodeling only.

Re: Website

That deck did not pass code. Improper risers, improper ledgerboard fasteners, no handrail, ect..

Just trying to help..

I don't know if I would take it down but maybe add a few more so it isn't the ONLY one. Variety is the spice of life.

You don't have to copy some one else's site but you can sure get some different ideas.

Re: Website

You've got wasted space at the top of the page, try to move everything up.

I would get rid of the header and logo and replace it with an attention getting headline.

Re-write all of the copy and use words like "you", "yours", get rid of words like "we", "our". It has to be customer focused not focused on your company.

I don't know what Property Management has to do with roofing and remodeling. I would take that off the site, and if you want to promote that kind of service do it on another website.

Re: Website

Property management was something we tried, but was a total bust. The tenants wold call anytime they wanted and was normally a waste of time. So it is gone. I thought we already did so, guess not. Thanks for the article, a lot of useful info in there.

Re: Website

What's with the door on that shed? I would choose different photos for my selection.

If I were looking for a contractor and I saw the trailer home with the deck then looked at that shed door I would not call you.

You have competition in your market, you best check out what they have first because consumer compare when they don't know who to call. As a plumber a website really is irrelevant to my customers but as a GC it can be a big deal.

Nothing on your website gives me a compelling reason to call you. Why would I call you? I'd figure out that first and decide how to get that on the front page.

You made your logo a focal point. Why? Consumers are looking for reasons to call you, I'd be concerned about supplying them with answers.

Some of us can get by without worrying about these items but GC's have a pretty big job to accomplish with a website. You are basically telling people you do everything under the sun but everybody does that right? What do you offer?

When a guy tells me he does roofing and decks and property management I tend to wonder about his credibility to be honest. If I need a roof I call a roofer. If I need a deck I call a deck specialist. But you do both? Give me reasons why I should call you for a roof instead of a roofer who does this everyday?

See what I mean? You need to supply these reasons on your website.
