The positive here is that there are a lot of things working for a lot of different types of companies in different stages of their business lives...good stuff!

Re: Top 5 Marketing Ideas That DO NOT WORK.

I believe that every single thing on the does not work list, does in fact work. Craigslist is one of the most popular sites on all of the internet. It does work. Many people are looking for a deal on there but many people understand that the cheapest price is not the way to go. I have resorted to listing my prices right on my postings. This weeds out many of the cheap a**es. Service magic also works. You pay for the leads you get, then you have to sell yourself. Either way, I don't know how you could say this does not work. It is putting you right in front of customers looking for what it is that you do. Passing out flyers may not give you much of a return, but it will work. It is best to make them in a coupon form. Finally, yellow pages will also work. Not necessarily if you are listed with 120 other people who do what you do and you have the cheap $100 per month ad. But if you get the 1/4 or half page ad it will work. Many older people still pick up the phone book.

What I have found works the best is tell people what their benefits will be not the features of your company.
Look...no one who ever bought a drill actually wanted a drill, they wanted a hole.
So tell them how to get the cleanest, best and fastest hole and they will buy the drill.
Give people their solution and they will buy the drill.
Hope this serves you in your marketing thoughts.

Being a contractor is a Trade Skill, Pricing and Marketing is a Business Skill. A Skilled craftsman does not necessarily make a good business man. Getting a professional Firm to help you in that aspect was the best decision i have ever made. The longer you wait to obtain those skills, the longer you will wait to reach success. Just a personal belief.....

Could not have said it better myself... Most tradesman are not born salesman so why do they try?
It's ironic that we are an entire industry that needs to constantly promote ourselves and don't know how.
I have been researching this on and off for 2 years now.
Look for a solution in the future. I'm on it!!!!

Like they say...if it ain't broke don't fix it! I suppose everyone has there own system that they are comfortable with. Me...I like to focus on their benefits of hiring me as opposed to telling them all the features my company has.
Keep in mind it's all about them.
Customers will buy from you once they know, like and trust you no matter what your price.
