I'd give up my left testicle if there were a way we could come up with to redirect searches away from Porch. Give 'em a taste of their own marketing.

Gotcha, I didn't get that far through the thread because it blew up another 25 pages from my initial post

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

This CT post is probably one that the marketing folk just wished they could remove. They much rather have started their own thread started with something really positive to say where the Title Tag could then be used to sway other contractors, but at least other contractors have a fighting chance to understand what happens when people randomly decide to use their information just because pieces are available publicly.

The vast, and I would say "VAST", majority of people working at Lead Gen companies will NEVER understand what the average contractor goes through to establish themselves. It goes to show, just because you raise a gazillion dollars (OK, I mean just 100 Million or so ), doesn't mean you can push the little guy aside.

Another forum thread that doesn't paint a flattering picture is one where employees and ex-employees can post what is really going on.
https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Po...ws-E738201.htm

In the beginning, most of the posts where 5 Star with young folk bragging about this and that, all short term, and then reality settles in and the 5 Stars Average slowly trickle to 4 Stars and then 3 Stars. So here is a portion of a comment just from Feb 10th that I find amusing ...

Pros
Health Insurance, free beer on Friday ...

Cons
Well, as others have mentioned on here, I was pretty much lied to by the recruiter. I was told that 80% of the floor reach their sales goal and you can double or triple the salary often. As others have illustrated, that is not the case. It is true that some, if not most, of management is pretty terrible. I watched most of my training group quit after a short time with their designated manager.

Advice to Management
Take the high turnover rates seriously ...

The GlassDoor site is little like the other AL leadgen site, and even if the ex-employees are negative because they no longer will be internet millionaires overnight, can one wonder how over 110 reviews can not be somewhat trusted?

https://www.glassdoor.com/Reviews/Po...ws-E738201.htm

So the posts here on this CT forum from contractors, plus the posts on GlassDoor from (ex) employees must be a little telling about how finally the LeadGen industry has become a dated model.

I just wonder what the folk over at Lowes's are thinking now that they are the majority owner? Even if the Porch folk are banned here at CT, perhaps the Lowe's people who are reading this may step forward and explain the "your customers" why this is all good for a contractor?

Yeah, I'm sure Porch doesn't like threads like this. But they probably aren't too concerned about them. It's not like John Q. Homeowner types "plumbers in Mayberry RFD" into thier Google search bar and this place shows up first. .....

They actually do. One day I'll tell you how I know but for now, just trust me. Theses threads are making an impact that we never thought was possible.

True, but they are concerned about the contractors themselves who bump into this, as well as all the tech folk who research like crazy before looking to join a new startup. I have heard a good handful tell me they read about this here, well before they reached out to me for their own website marketing.

Some contractors view listing themselves on lead gen sites passively as a way to get leads, and they honestly don't see the detrimental aspects of signing up. And then they bump into the subject matter and pause. And even if it is a small percentage who educate themselves, that small percentage then becomes successful and spreads the word. Got to start somewhere.

I sent the link to this thread in my response to the previous screen shot.

The one where their "Success Specialist" tried to convince me that
the landing page with my info was set up for me to receive the information on the "request quote" option, the one without any phone #.
Saying its set up to go to my email, which they never had, till I wrote to have the page taken down.

I imagine they are trained to respond a certain way, so I figured she may be a little better informed by reading this thread,or enough of it to see how Porch is actually operating.

Kind of doubt it though since their second response reflects them holding the high ground by removing the page as a "professional courtesy".

This is such BS......I went to porch.com on another email address/name and requested a quote from myself......never got an email. Did this many times over the course of several months...Never got an email or a call.

Filing a complaint with TN commerce.

The thing is is nobody gives a crap about our intellectual property/business profiles. Have a friend who has one of the biggest chimney companies in the country.... got his website stolen by 14 other companies and his only recourse was to sue or create a new site........he made a new site.....cheaper.

The internet is the best and worst thing to happen this world...... Lawless crapmunchers!!!

I always ask these guys if Porch would allow me to put their company info on my website and use their name to generate traffic and leads to my site. They always tell me that if I am a Porch contractor I can. I then repeat my question. When they get what I am asking they get a bit off script and don't know how to react. They usually recover with they will check with their legal dept or ignore what I am saying and go off in another direction.

I just respond with, and that's how I feel about you using my company name and information to generate leads for your site and clients.

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

Hey all,

It's been awfully quiet on this for a few months.

Anyone still get bombarded with calls to advertise or has it slowed down?

I saw an article in USA Today that had them explaining their rough year, and haven't seen much more hype recently.

I'm sure the Porch folk are a little happy to see their competitor being sued by ex-employees who felt they worked overtime and didn't get paid. It can make one chuckle since those sales reps should be true to the clients they were trying to pitch -and realize many contractors don't get paid overtime .... When in Rome, one should be a Roman

I'd like to keep this thread active just so it would show up under searches for
their site.
Having gone through round one with them on using my info for hijacking purposes,I received another Email trying to convince me its being taken care of.

Their first response was three months ago. This is usually my busiest season for phone calls so I did a few local searches, sans my company name, and they are still at it,ranking in the top three results.

Their last Email:

Hi John,

Thanks for getting in touch with Porch Support. I see that you've already had some conversations with Brooke. I notice, however, that Brooke was mistaken about being able to verify that this profile has been taken down via the link below. What actually happens is that we remove your profile from our search database - this means your profile won't appear to anyone who visits our site. It won't show up in searches; it won't be displayed to homeowners. I've also submitted this URL to Google so that they can recrawl our website and update their search results, which they likely already have, which means this site will not show up in google searches. The only way this listing is available is through direct link in that URL, which we don't share with anyone for any reason once an account is suppressed. We are currently in the process of changing that functionality so that the link will no longer work after a profile is suppressed, but we aren't there yet.

I appreciate your patience and understanding, and I'm sorry to hear that you have such a negative impression of Porch. Our goal, as ever, has always been to bring homeowners and home professionals together for the mutual benefit of both. It isn't our goal to use your company to advertise ourselves. In fact, unsuppressed directory profiles with limited information such as yours almost never show up in search results because those searches return our guaranteed professionals and other professionals with reviews and other profile development. It, therefore, was never able to direct business our way. That profile was only there as an opportunity for you to grow your business.

I hope you have a lovely day,
Hayley Johnson

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

Maybe I should book an appointment to see how many calls I get.

Hell,if we all book appointments on all their listings, than they can sell the bogus leads to unsuspecting subscribers, who'll get pizzed off and eventually cancel their listings.

That wouldn't be fair to the contractors who use them, but I'd like to find a way to put an end to all these types of practices.

I can't believe their support staff believes what they respond with,I try to educate them with a link to these types of threads and links to contractor complaints. You know, shame them into remission,,,,or maybe demoralize them to a point it spreads through their whole company....kind of like a verbal virus.

OK, so here is a story in Forbes. Got to hand it to them since they have connections all over the place so they get free exposure and then can splash something like "As seen in Forbes". Too bad they didn't provide the names of the contractors who did the actual work and link to their websites. Or maybe these contractors will wind up paying to be on the landing pages as a Preferred Contractor ... But of course they got their link and their name in the URL too. But to be fair, I'll give a compliment to them knowing how to get exposure even when their is not much to say. Wonder how many contractor's will be able to list their home for 20+ Million?

Re: Porch.com,,,,,,,,,They Use Your Business Name And Redirect Your Calls

I was going to follow the lead of the lead gen folk and just cut & paste the story here, but I rather not since it is Forbes material and they really aren't part of the challenge.

But what I noticed is the Bio of the contributing post since there is no personal name just the Company Name (so technically anyone can post and comment and you will never know who you are communicating with). That was basically were occurred here too initially on CT until we asked to remove the ambiguity and finally someone stepped up to the plate with a name.

Anyhow, the tag line says "We cover extraordinary real estate". So if I was a betting man, I would bet they are trying to position themselves against someone like Houzz since Forbes gives credibility to a higher income level. But that's just me
