Re: More Angie's List Shenanigans

I'm not a fan of AL but you can get leads without paying. I had a lady leave me a review after I did a little repair for her and a couple others have left me reviews since then. When you ask for referrals at the end of the job, ask if they're on AL. It's worth having a couple decent reviews but most people that call from AL have been a little high maintenance, in my experience.

Re: More Angie's List Shenanigans

Angie was fabulous to us for about 3 years (2011-2013), she has become another one of those extortion rings since. I kick myself for singing the last contract and it is my last!

After seeing the statistics regarding the amount of money they are bring in from our hard earned work, compared to paying customers, that was all I needed to seal the deal. $60 million from contractors like us and $10 million for customers. I guess if you have the time to stay on top of all the tips and tricks to rank higher (we do rank well) you might get more work from that site. Ain't nobody got time for that lol!

After all my time with with AL, I'm noticing more and more of those leads are difficult to work for, meaning their C and D customers. I prefer to work with A and B clients that are reasonable people! You are appreciated!

I think that happens a lot in big business. They get successful, start raking in the big numbers and their focus shifts to earnings, market shares, expansion, etc. and forget what make them successful in the first place. The words fat, dumb and happy come to mind.

Re: More Angie's List Shenanigans

I m becoming more and more of an angies fanboy. So far ten months in I've spent $2000 on angies and I've completed 33k worth of work in a total of 12 jobs or 11 days of actual work. Also started very slow and was a very harsh winter.

Like i said before i was a total hater. Might not work for a 15,000 bath remodel but the $2-3k gutter jobs are the ones im getting in an area ive very rarely worked in in a different county

One bad review and you're toast......OR that 2000 becomes 5000 to keep you at the head of the class.......

More than likely since you don't have the competition numbers in that niche......it might work for you

I've always been apprehensive because of the bad review possibility but I'm still involved in 100% of the job from the first call to the guy cleaning up. There will always be a holes that will write bad reviews but I do whatever it takes to leave a happy customer. It's definitely a niche no doubt .

I joined on Monday. I don't know how customers will find my listing though. I can't even find it.

What you do is give them your customer's contact info under the guise of providing a review for you so they can solicit new customers for themselves, while providing them with many more competitors to you.

Re: More Angie's List Shenanigans

I`m angieslist there since 2006
going through some issues with them now .

now they want me to pay have my name on top page of my 3 categories.
its about $250 a month ,

problem I have is , they promised me that ,
but when I read the contract ,its just a protection-clad contract , telling me what angieslist is not responsible for , and how my payment should go .
it never really says I will on top of each category.
it just says " paying for web-ad"
I told them I want it to actually say I will be on top of the list, and one the first page
I`ve talked to saleslady , now supervisor , and now he`s having the director call me.
but he says they`ve done it this way for years, and is making me feel like I`m being picky.
if that's picky , I`ll be picky

As long as you have a rating in a category from within the last 6 months you don't need to advertise!!!! AL is ripping us off, they keep changing their contractor advertising to suit them as their popularity and members increase

My advice ...avoid Angies List entirely , they will bring you mostly very distrustful customers . Angies List has never turned a profit, an in my opinion they are dangerous .

Re: More Angie's List Shenanigans

I tried to sign up for Angie's List a few years ago for my solar energy company. The site was expensive and after putting up a few bucks I found I had to keep dodging salesman who tried to upsell me.
