I'm new at Pinterest. We have had a handful of re-pins of our work, but I'm not sure how to give us more momentum. Any ideas?

Re: If You're Not On Facebook, You Should Be.

Here is an awesome article about how contractors can use Pinterest: http://www.inc.com/businessmoves/oha...e-ranking.html

A couple of key points to remember, always use quality photos. When you upload them, make sure they are keyword rich (i.e. your location-your service-what the picture is). Pinterest isn't so good for creating leads, as it is good for driving people to your site...which should create leads.

Now...as far as a strategy that I would employ (article on this forthcoming)...I'd post do it yourself instructional photos. Most contractors want to shy away from teaching people how to do things they would rather them pay to have done, but don't ever underestimate the power of becoming the expert. If you post small DIY tips in photo format your pics are much more likely to go viral. Then you literally become the DIY home improvement expert. If you are the expert, people will listen to you, even when you are there to pitch your services. Its like gold.

Yes. Makes posting on both platforms easier. You could also use HootSuite. It's like $10/month and you can manage all of your social media on one screen. We use it.

A small amount of time each and every week. 30 minutes is a great place to start. I set a timer and whatever I get in that time is what I get done. Larger or more time consuming investments like designing a cover photo or optimizing all my photos for different seasons is done on a weekend.

We still got work cut out for us. But it's a long process. Tackling things with consistency has been key for us.

Re: If You're Not On Facebook, You Should Be.

Hey guys check out this page:
http://blog.woorank.com/2013/10/woor...ats-explained/

It seems, to me at least, that likes for your homepage are probably more important than likes for your Facebook business page in terms of SEO value.

So, I put "like" buttons on my homepage that are set up to count as homepage likes, not my profile page likes. I think it's important to know the difference: read the article!

Also, if anyone wants to like my homepage to get me started I appreciate it. The button is about 2/3 of the way down on the right side.

I was trying to find the like button. Perhaps it doesn't show up on my ipad?

Re: If You're Not On Facebook, You Should Be.

Curious question, do think think this is important in ranking somehow? Or is this more for social proof?

If social proof is the main goal what about the facebook plugin that shows visitors who are logged in to their facebook their friends who have also liked your page? I have neither set up but im curious if one would be useful.

That's a good question. I think it's both, really. When (local) people "like" me, some of their friends will see that and may check out my page as well.

On the rankings side, social metrics are definitely an important factor for search results.

In fact, social signals were the highest correlating factor for Google SERPs in 2013.
http://www.searchmetrics.com/en/serv...-factors-2013/

Of course, Google sees +1s as more important than Facebook (what a joke, the only people who use G+ are small business owners and bloggers). But, Facebook shares, comments and likes have a very strong value and for local business may be more important than backlinks, which used to be the single most important ranking metric.

At least, this is what can be gleaned by analyzing search results and looking at what the top ranking results had in common. We should keep in mind though that correlation does not necessarily mean causation.

That is, while websites that are popular in social media tend to rank better, we can not necessarily say they rank better because of their social media.

No one know for sure exactly what Google looks at when it decides how to rank a site for a specific query, but trying to reverse engineer that algorithm is big business, and a lot of very bright people have been trying to work it out for a long time now. The image on that searchmetrics link above is interesting.

Re: If You're Not On Facebook, You Should Be.

As a follow up to a previous post on how many see a post. Last night I shared a link to our blog. Of 637 fans only 18 have seen it so far. However I did get two referrals to the site and and realtor show shared it. So as far as being useful it converted better than the last post that 51 percent of fans saw. Maybe it's magic.

Re: If You're Not On Facebook, You Should Be.

We currently have just under 500 fans and are consistently getting 150-200 "people who saw this". Our blog articles are getting around 50 views...

A mix of content- photo posts, photo posts with text, more than one photo, memes, etc. is most helpful.

BUT, instead of creating content we are focusing on creating conversations...
