How Important Is Google First Page

Hi Everyone, new to the page, I was looking for feedback on how important it is to your business and lead generation for google first page rankings? As a young company we buy the majority of our leads and pay for google ads. Although we have good sales people we would love to save money by reducing lead gen cost by having first page position on google. Thoughts and feedback are welcomed

I believe that more than 99% of the people looking for services don't bother going to the 2nd page. I don't and don't see any reason for going further than the first page unless I can't find someone on the first page. Yellow page sales men always said that 85% of the customers look on only the first 3 pages. Why would someone go any further?

I've been using Google Guaranteed and get a lot of leads. I use it for plumbing and don't know if they have it for other services. With Google Guaranteed my ad is on the very top of the page and i pay only $25 when the customer actually dials the phone number in the ad. The phone is routed through Google's phone system and recorded.

What is really weird is I have the option to click on a link saying the lead did not pan out and i don't even have to pay the $25. Another great thing is Google gives my customers a refund guarantee up to $2,000. So, I advertise in all my ads that my company is Google Guaranteed for up to $2,000.

That's what happens when they show you what they want to show you now what you were searching for.

Re: How Important Is Google First Page

If someone isn't willing to go to page 2, they're looking for a bag of meat with a pulse.

That means they're not someone I want to deal with. If someone is willing to do their own due diligence and ask around, my name will be mentioned by someone they work with, sit in church with, live next to.....

Re: How Important Is Google First Page

The statistics say that only about 5% of people searching for a service on Google go to the 2nd page. If your niche is in the Google Guaranteed program that is a great addition to the regular Adwords you said you are already running. If you are trying to get on the first page organically then you want to focus on Google My Business optimizations. Most traffic is going to click on a Google guaranteed listing, regular ad from adwords, or a Google My Business listing.

It's really important. Nowadays, a lot of my customers are younger. The only thing they care about is either word of mouth or my website being on the first page in Google. 100% of my marketing budget is now in SEO. The rest is my sweat equity in maintaining my FB page and going door to door (I still do that). My lead volume has gone up about 10x (I am a good closer, sales is in my blood) since I made it to page 1 of Google for most "roofing" terms. But now I can pick and choose my customers.

How often do you go past the first page when you're looking for something you need?

Constantly. When I'm looking for a deal I'll go 15 pages in sometimes.

I was looking for respirator cartridges. Apparently they've gone up 50% since the last time I bought them. Last ones I got were about $8 and now they're all $12-14. Digging deep I was able to find them for $10.50

When looking for a rare part or piece of software? As many pages as google will show me.

When looking for a contractor? First page.

Depending on the trade and the size of your service area I've watched companies add hundreds of thousands to millions of dollars in revenue ranking on the first page.

The roofing industry is highly competitive so this would be a long-term strategy that could take a while to pay off, do it right and it can change the game for you.

I'm a first page guy but these days so many adds are at the top you almost have to go page two
The other thing these days a Google search gets corrupted by these adds and often have no real relationship to what I am looking for.

Re: How Important Is Google First Page

I am a big fan of getting leads anywhere I can get it. If that means getting leads from Google organically, or Paid Ads, then I am all for it. One thing that I've learned over the past few years is how bad the leads are from directories like Yelp and Home Advisor. If I get leads from these two networks...the only question homeowners want to know if "how much". Those types of networks make it too easy for clients to get a bunch of bids...and the only way to win is to come in at the lowest price. I've found that when we pull homeowners from organic search or paid ads...they are less likely to ask "how much" and more often ask "how soon" or "when can you". That's the type of clients I would rather meet with. Luckily our reviews and our website pleads such a compelling case that once they find us...then they're already presold in advance. Best of luck!

Re: How Important Is Google First Page

The higher the ranking the better. Customers are going to search and start clicking on first page businesses.

A tool that really helps gets your business listed high on Google is YEXT. Yext gets your business listed across the internet on over 60 websites that link to your website. It really rocks!

Optimizing your Google My Business page is also very helpful to rank in local searches. YEXT also helps to get this ranked higher.

With the proper use of keywords and consistent posting it is possible to get your Facebook Page or LinkedIn business page all ranking on the first page for the keywords you are going after.

If you'd like to know more about how I have gotten my business ranking #1 I'd be happy to share what I can.

Re: How Important Is Google First Page

When seeking services, I avoid 1st page purposefully, but I'm biased so-to-speak, as I'm "in the business". I will also add that going to a google search would be my alternative choice if I had no personal references. I wonder how many non-construction/non-business owners do the same or am I just weird?

Personal references are awesome. I will generally search specifically for the company that was referred instead of using keywords.
