How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

Hi guys I wonder if you can help.

I've managed to build my own web site and I am generating some business from it but it still find myself on page 7 in the rankings. While I have a google places account that is also linked to my site and for an emergency plumber in reading Berkshire I am listed as number one my website tracker is telling me I am only getting 5-7 hits per day.

I would really appreciate it if you could help as I am running on a very tight budget and really need some help on how to drive good traffic to my site or even if my site is any good.

I have posted a link to my site and welcome any feed back.

Thanks guys

Hay sir maxalot, thanks for your feed back. The only problem with it is the spelling is UK based and not US English?

But hay when I decide to go global I will keep it in mind.

I was wondering where Bashingstoke was.
Maybe you should add UK into the location on your profile.

Re: How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

If you are in a competitive market then you will need to develop quite a few more pages, each of which is optimized for a few keywords. You will also need to develop your internal linking so that the search engines clearly know which page is dedicated to which keywords.

Once you have filled out your site a bit then you should start looking for ways to get other sites to link to yours, whether it be local affiliations, articles that you write or relevant directory submissions.

If you are all the way out on page 7 then I'd say you should dedicate your immediate focus to optimizing you local citations such as Google Places, Bing Local, Yahoo Local, Localeze, etc.. Getlisted.org should help you.

Is there any reason you are writing "JCPlumbing Services" instead of "JC Plumbing"? Services"

Hi, there is no reason as to why I am writing it this way it's just something that stuck. Should I be writing it the other way would it help?

well, you would want to write it properly, with spaces and whatnot.

Re: How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

I agree with MagicPoolSvcs - adding a blog would be helpful (something we need to implement on our own site as well!), as would building out your website (for example, you could write a page for service you offer, mentioned in that bulleted list on the Homepage - heating repair, bathroom fitting, pipework, etc.).

People probably have a million different questions about plumbing - a FAQs page is also an option you could explore! It has helped our site

Re: How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

Think of your site as a "Fishing Boat" you are in the business to catch "fish".

What do fishermen do to increase their odds of catching fish ?
They add a bunch of lines ( links ) to the water to do so.

Building links, blogging, and pointers ( social media ) will help drive traffic.
You can also pay for it - Google Ad Words.

I hope this helps

Re: How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

Hi Joe,

Great URL for your site!

Good advice already given in this thread. Here are a few more comments...

5-7 hits per day, or visits per day? Do you know what keyword phrase is triggering those hits/visits? If so, you can build on that with more search engine optimized content.

In general, I think your use of keywords could be better, and to go with that (as Ethan said), you need more content. For example, if you want to be found by people searching for an emergency plumber, build a page around that keyword phrase. And make content specific to each page. For instance, you wouldn't want to talk about general services on an "emergency plumber" page; people who come to your site looking for an emergency plumber have an emergency, after all, and need to know immediately whether or not you can help them with THEIR problem NOW. So focus on answering the questions in their head: "Can this plumber get here quickly, fix my problem, and not charge me a fortune for an after-hours call?" That's what they need to know within 3 seconds of landing on your page. Know what I mean?

Maybe whatever people are reading on your Google Places page is not telling them what they need to know. Put yourself in your potential customer's head. Talk about specific problems and how you are an expert at fixing them. Try to come up with a compelling answer to "Why should I hire YOU instead of any other plumber in my town?"

To use Chris's analogy of fishing, you not only need several lines in the water, you need the right bait.

Other stuff...

"Emergency" is misspelled in your headline. I'm sure not even the British spell it as "emergengy."

You should have someone carefully proofread your site for grammar, capitalization, spelling, punctuation, etc.

I think your "Need a Plumber?" page should be renamed "Plumbing Services" (why would anyone be on your site if they did NOT need a plumber?).

On your "Property Maintenance" page you mention: "...a 15% discount on plumbing services for OAPs until 2012..." What's an OAP? Would your prospects know? And we're already in 2012, so has that offer expired? Also, it seems a page titled "Property Maintenance" should focus on maintenance services, but most of the content of that page talks about installation. If you offer recurring maintenance services for apartment complexes/property managers, for instance, this page should talk about that. If you don't, and you only do residential plumbing, perhaps this page should be renamed to match its content ("Plumbing Installation," for instance).

Why do you have a "Gallery" page and a "News Pictures" page? I think it would be better to just put the photos that are on the "News Pictures" page on the "Gallery" page, and eliminate the "News Pictures" page.

Your off to a good start, Joe -- congrats on building your site! Implement the suggestions of everyone who is providing you with feedback here, and you'll be set!

The best thing for you to do is find an SEO specialist who can get you organic traffic. Even if you just buy a really small package from them- it would still definitely help.

We trust getting our website traffic to a professional, because we know we don't have time to do it ourselves.

http://www.wippleinc.com is the company we use.

You could check them out if you want.

Re: How To Drive More Traffic To My Site

What the OP is trying to accomplish is SEO (Search Engine Optimization). Basically making it so people can find you on the web.

You can hire a firm to do your SEO, but the subject matter is pretty simple, and most of the steps you can do yourself. I used this book:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/184...ls_o03_s00_i00

but I'm sure there are others that are as good.

Another important thing is getting google analytics built into the web site, so you can tell who is finding you and how they are searching. Google analytics is free, but you have to add a small section of code to your site to trigger it.

Exactly with what I've done with the company page. SEO is very time consuming and I'm still learning.
OP, there's still misspelling on your page. I'm sure minutes isn't spelled minuet in English, unless you are in the music industry like I was a long time ago.

You've got one as well, unless your guys work naked.

"Respect your home We treat your home as if it were our own. We place drop clothes on work areas, wear shoe covers and leave your house cleaner than when we begin."

Nice info on the site, BTW.

Good one. I'll make sure we just drop our cloths. That would be a sight. I'm anal at spelling but this might have slipped through.
