Which Is Better ROI? Social Media Marketing Or Your Website

We've been seeing more and more emphasis on building facebook or linkedin marketing campaigns in the past few years.

Our website results have been disappointing for the last 2 years, which has me questioning whether we should abandon the monthly fee website and focus solely on a social media campaign.

Everywhere I look, businesses are asking me to "like" them on facebook . Not many are asking me to visit their website at joeypickuptruck.com

Where are you getting a better ROI?

Re: Which Is Better ROI? Social Media Marketing Or Your Website

I've just started using Adwords in google, maybe 3 weeks now. It has boosted the traffic to my site but It can get pricey. I have gotten 2 leads so far. Right now I'm playing the waiting game to see if the ROI will be worth it in the long run. I think in 3 months I will be able to see if it has been worth it.

Facebook and Linkdn confuse me. Maybe I'm just old school. I don't think Likes from facebook can lead to sales but maybe i'm doing it wrong. I use facebook to point to my blog which then points to my website.

That's an exceptionally low rate for SEO. It's not surprising that you're not getting much out of it. For one thing, I notice your blog has a lot of "spun" content which tends to make Google unhappy.

Cool, I didn't know Facebook had a review system. Is it like Yelp?

No. My customers just find it and say thanks. I don't do anything, they just sort of do it.

I receive a lot of calls based solely on people reading it.

We actually have the exact opposite experience. We have had quite a bit of success with our direct website marketing campaigns, and much less favorable results through Social Media.

Re: Which Is Better ROI? Social Media Marketing Or Your Website

Websites and social media like Facebook work together. I can't imagine not having a website. A website allows potential customers to find you while social media allows you to find your customers. They can work very well together but require VERY different approaches. I'm not at all surprised that Mike has success with Facebook as it is an almost perfect match for his method of generating business.

One other point. You own your website but you don't own Facebook, putting all your eggs in another company's basket can lead to some problems in the long term.

Re: Which Is Better ROI? Social Media Marketing Or Your Website

I use social media to build authority for my websites. It works better than anything I've tried. That's what I use them for, if they bring in leads, it's a bonus.

Some businesses have better success using search engines due to the lower threshold of their services. Re-modeler's are not in this category.

Also, some types of businesses have fewer key phrases to rank to get the traffic needed. A remodeling company has many categories that need to be addressed individually plus the jobs have more decision making processes the customer needs to go through. Kitchens need to be attacked separately from bathrooms, and floors, additions and remodeling designers all need their own campaigns.

A plan has to be put together for remodelers/contractors that are for experts only. If you were a locksmith it would be very simple because there is only 1 key phrase for the industry that gets 90% of the traffic and that phrase is "locksmith".

My point is search engines will outperform social media by a lot if done right. It will open the right doors, had to get that in there, lol

Re: Which Is Better ROI? Social Media Marketing Or Your Website

I'll throw in a second that it's not a question of one or the other, it's both, plus everything else working together.

Let me illustrate this way. If someone lands on your site from a search engine and it's the first time they've heard of you, they are very "cold" at that point. The natural skepticism and defense mechanisms are in high gear. These are the most difficult visitors to win over and you can literally lose them in 8 seconds or less.

Now let's suppose you're working on a project and the HO posts some of your progress on their FB. Combined with your own FB activity, all their friends and relatives can see what's going on. When the HO is thrilled with your work and let's everyone know, the traffic coming to your site is very warm and that also puts your word of mouth advertising on steroids.

I would advocate going even further and using a rider on your yard signs with the Facebook address so any interested neighbors can check it out. And as I've stated on other threads, your vehicles should serve as a parked billboard advertising your web site. If neighbors then check out your site and ask the HO about their satisfaction with your work, those types of visitors will have a much higher conversion rate.

Google erased all my reviews and told me it was spam. So I came up with a new plan and it will be rolling by January 1st. It's gonna rock like you couldn't possibly imagine. It will be my legacy and it will be here long after I'm dead.

I do not pay for or really use SEO. I solely use Google Adwords and so far it has been pretty good. You control your costs.

He broke the rules and wrote the reviews himself.

If that statement is to be taken literally, I would advise casting a wider net. If you really are depending heavily on one method, you will become vulnerable when things change. And change they will. Five years is like a century with the Internet. Even Facebook is showing signs of faltering.

For a dose of interesting reality, dig up a few threads here from 5 years ago and read through them.

Adwords is for only the most inexperienced web people on the planet. I see no need for it from a business standpoint. Optimize your website through good thoughtfull use of keywords etc, you will be on the 1st page in 6 months and stay there as long as you keep up with it.

Social Media is free, and as someone said, if used correctly is word of mouth on steroids. I post pictures of work, and with HO permission, I tag them in the pics, then all af thier "friends" see it, so on and so forth.
