Anyone Still Advertise In The Phone Book?

I admit im not the most tech savvy guy only recently went full tech.(website, advertising etc. )but i can hold my own but the phone book still? This guy keeps leaving messages about the upcoming phone book advertising closing and trying to sell me on it. I did the book in the 90's. Anyone still throw an add in the phone book?

Might be some demographic large enough, 55- 65yr old +, in your area owning homes with disposable income needing full blown gutter replacement over the quick fixes...who would turn to the yellow pages first. So you can grab their attention with a large format ADD and top A1 NYgutter guy listing

diminishing returns?

Re: Anyone Still Advertise In The Phone Book?

At first I was wondering what a phone book was then I realized 'it's the emergency toilet paper book'.

In a bathroom emergency you tear out the number of paper leafs required, crumple them up a bit to soften it and then...ah...use it as required.

Andy.

My wif (who is 28 )got mad at me for throwing out the phone book. She has a smartphone, computer, and iPad. She won't look up a phone number on any of them. Has to be the book.

I'm pretty sure she's the exception

Nope stopped using the YP's 1n 2009. I used to spend $1,000.00 a month with them on ads in 3 different sections Drywall, Painting and Ceilings.

Now I only spend $120.00 a year on website hosting and domain renewal.

NY we are in the same business and not far awa, none of the chime inners have the same niche as we do so maybe this is not for them to speak on.

All and I mean all my competitors use the phone book and I do not. I believe they are all afraid to quit because we are in business requiring many leads to maintain.

I take it you are not in now?

Re: Anyone Still Advertise In The Phone Book?

Are you sure?

I looked in my yellow pages and still find many guys spending the money, just smaller adds than they used too.
I don't use it but do spend a few dollars on YP.com. Seems the older folk feel comfortable using that online.

Re: Anyone Still Advertise In The Phone Book?

Coming from a digital service provider, this might seem counter-intuitive. But I would recommend not abandoning the older formats altogether. Hear me out.

According to Google Adwords, there were a total of around 70 people from across NY who searched for "gutter installation" on Google every month over the past year. Do you think there are only so many prospects for your industry in the NY state?

So this means a vast majority of people are seeking gutter installers from elsewhere. It may or may not be Yellow Pages. But this is something you could investigate and find from your customers. If phone book is something a lot of people still use, then I don't see any reason why you should not advertise there.

At least 50% of my customers are retirees. They still use phone books.

I don't think I've seen a phone book delivered around here in years. Not sure how they are using them when they aren't being distributed.

Re: Anyone Still Advertise In The Phone Book?

The local yellow pages wants way too much for what they offer. I'm in a rural area, and they split it into two sections (valley west, and valley east ). I'm right on the border in valley west. There's almost no work in valley west. Valley east is much busier. But I can only advertise in valley west. Thems the rules.

So I'd end up paying 5-600 bucks and not even be where the action is.

The product they're really pushing now is their online listing. But the number of searches they get for my area are so low it's ridiculous. I'd basically be paying 8-9$ per impression.

Gut feeling, but I suspect that a simple inline block ad + online listing would reward handsomely. Make sure you tell everyone "Eh, it was a big waste of money."

Yellow pages bring call from seniors. Non diyers they call for service stuff not for remodeling.

The chimn inner guys are a racket, they go under multiple names so they corner a market. So I hear....

I would have agreed with this 10 years ago but now I would say that the people using phone books are in the over 80 group, maybe 70s, but not so much 60s. The fuzzy area being the 70s for me.

I would still be in the phone book if their prices were in line with a reasonable ROI. They would have to drop their rates about 90%.

I still advertise in our local one.

It's great for the elders , who still do things the old way.
