Advertisers On Your Blog

Over the last 6 months, I have been contacted by 3 different people who were interested in advertising on my blog.

Has anybody else had any similar offers? I am hesitant to allow any guest blogs as it may hurt my rankings. Just curious to see if anybody else is doing this and weither or not if has affected their rankings.

I don't see how a topical guest blog post would hurt your rankings as long as it wasn't duplicate content from another site. On the plus side you should get at least one or two inbound links from the author promoting your site which would help your rankings depending on linking page and domain authority.

From a human perspective(which is what should matter) it's up to you to decide whether the content would damage or improve the content of your blog.

If they want to pay for the spot and you want them there go for it. If they want to hang there for free tell them to go pound sand.

Re: Advertisers On Your Blog

I have had quite a few - guest posts I am somewhat picky about, the only advertising on my blog is for my company which is the way I like it, but nothing says you can't do it

I have dealt with this. typically the guest blog posts are really low quality or copy/pasted from somewhere..they only want a link out of it (Unless you have a VERY popular blog)

Re: Advertisers On Your Blog

I really don't think that I would consider my blog all that popular but I am getting some decent traffic. I have seen a sharp increase over the last 6 months and am getting about 4000 visits per month.

The amount offered for the post was $140. It seems like a decent offer but is definitely not enough to risk losing any credibility.

When your website ranks nationally #1 for basement finishing that helps. I would love some advice to get my new one going.

It depends on the uniqueness and quality of the actual content. Since this will be a reflection of you and your business.

It's your website, I would just remain the rights to the blog post and ability to make corrections where you see fit. They're probably most concerned about the quality back link they would be getting.

That's a pretty decent traffic rate. Any hints on how you got there?

Re: Advertisers On Your Blog

I'd be wary of any third party advertising or link exchange deals, unless you are in the advertising business yourself (I am). The danger is distracting from your primary objective -- marketing your own services.

Google will pay you 70 cents on the dollar for the AdSense program (where contextual ads are placed on your site). Trouble is, many of the ads might be from competitors or from others distracting from your primary message -- and the actual revenue you will likely earn is extremely modest -- perhaps $100 after a few months.
