2012 Home & Garden Show Watertown, NY

The Northern New York Builders Exchange in Watertown hosted their annual Home & Garden Show this weekend and we were pleased to participate.

Our booth on the night before, nearly ready and definitely waiting;

Some will recognize this top from another thread here;

Our newest offering was very popular with the crowd. It's a tri-color hand pressed sand mix with an epoxy coating. Normally a piece this size would not require a seam. However, they are not always avoidable and we wanted to highlight just a tease of how different they can be with such a versatile material.

Our booth was large enough to comfortably display photos of some recent kitchen & bath work, cabinet sample case, client freebies that we make from excess counter top materials and of course the famed Korner King.

The self portrait (next to the Korner King) attends every showing.

This table was set up to illustrate variations on a similar theme. The two larger pieces will become desk tops in our office after the show. Not easily visible in this photo is a line up the length of the table of 3' squares of various samples. The main pieces feature four variations on colored glass and one section with no glass.

Sherwin Williams, our favorite paint store, had the booth next to us.

Ready and waiting for the action to resume. The pint size on the right is Mrs. DavidC. She came in to make sure we kept good manners and didn't act too much like contractors during the busier times.

Made for a long weekend, but we enjoyed the meet and greet and did collect some promising looking leads.

Good Luck

Nice looking display, hope it was a good show for you. We had ours this weekend. Good turn out , some fair leads to go and bid, but seems like a lot more people just looking this year. Was a time when could write a whole years worth of work from the show not any more though.

According to tickets sales the show was on par with last year, up just slightly. My take so far is that the people that did stop to talk with us stayed in the booth longer and asked more questions compared to last year. We collected fewer leads than last but I believe them to be higher quality. I hope that's true because we didn't close a single one from last year.

Aside from leads we had a couple of contractors at the show stop at our booth and inquire about availability for their clients. One builder of high end homes is having us price the K&B and trim out of a home he has started.

Overall I'm optimistic that it will pan out just fine. We'll see in the next few weeks.

That corner piece, the hand pressed one, was very popular. Many folks had trouble comprehending that it was concrete. Many thanks to Stonecutter on that one for the inspiration to get off my a$$ with it.

Good Luck
Dave

We signed our first contract off this show the other day. Just a small one to install a few windows and a door, but they have their kitchen torn apart and the husband realizes now that he may be in over his head.

But the real news is that we play our reference list heavy. We really press the importance of verifying not just our references, but the competitions also. These folks called a few numbers from our list before they found one to talk to. They won't say who it was or what was said, but they called the competition 1/2 hour before his scheduled appointment and told him that they had already hired us.

That was before they heard our numbers or saw our proposal. Aside from whatever our reference had said, they liked that we listened to their needs and desires, took notes, made suggestions and double checked everything for accuracy. When they looked over the proposal they were impressed that it was spelled out exactly what we were going to do and it coincided with our conversations.

It'll take a bit more to cover the cost of the show, but a nice start. I'm still hopeful on the counter tops.

Good Luck
Dave
