All this talk about softwoods. You want to use the deck, right?

If you can get OG that's the route I'd go.

Very stable in comparison and looks better.

That crossed my mind. I still have a tiny bit somewhere around here. I could make a deck for a doll house.

I love a brand new ipe deck, but the texas sun beats the tar out of the finish. just spent 3 days refinishing 750SF 3 years after it was installed. it was bad.

my dream deck would be PA blue stone or granite slab.

Apparently nothing until September, at least. I just got a quote on deck materials. When they handed me the quote, they said, "We don't have any of that."

I guess the pressure treating plants shut down for Covid. Everyone has used up their stock.
At least in my area.

I was wondering about that. I was in Menards a week ago and their PT lumber section was barren. It looked like the grocery store shelves after the pandemic just started.

Sounds like there will be ground contact before regular acq is back in stock. Around here they plants where not only shut down but they are 60% over regular demand right not too

Why would you use non ground contact? We use ground contact for everything here.

Are you guys using non ground contact pt for structure?

Unless you are talking dipped pt deck boards. Ive stopped using that stuff because it doesn't last and just seems to split and twist. Even the Doug Fir has given me problems in the past.

Ground contact here is no where near the quality of acq. It splits really easy and twists way more

Ground contact here looks like this

Ah, that makes sense then.

We get ground contact Doug fir now. Used to get hem-fir and it was the same way.

It would twist within a couple days of being put in the sun. I've had entire fences twist apart when the 4xs twisted 180 degrees.

The stuff we get now is so straight it is hard to pick the crown side. And no checks or wains. Beautiful stuff.

I run fast away from hem Fir. Doug Fir is all I'll use for structure.

We didn't know. The yard sold it for years, we just loaded it and rolled.

The odd thing is I have 3 4x6 posts holding up my front porch that look like new.

New owner came in and started stocking Doug fir, then had it custom colored brown. Best lumber ever. It is actually a pleasure to work with.

You hardly even get edge splintering on the eased edges.

I see and hear what other guys are dealing with and I feel pretty blessed with this stuff.

Great Doug Fir ACQ is a Westcoast thing.

My pressure treated I get is outstanding. I can get it all the way up to 6x16 and maybe bigger if I tried.
