Re: Would You Fire Someone Because Of Social Media? (Swag Giveaway!)

I'm friends with all the other employee's and boss (Dad)

It's never been an issue with us. With our business model, we would never have an employee who we would need to fire over a social media issue.

As to if I would or not, I'm not the boss, but speaking for myself, I would have to say that I wouldn't unless they did something that hurt my business. People can do some stupid stuff on social media, that doesn't mean it's hurting the company though.

Re: Would You Fire Someone Because Of Social Media? (Swag Giveaway!)

As long as it doesn't affect the company in any way then it's their own business. If they posted negative comments towards the business or me or a customer then I would have an issue because those could have an affect on the business. But if they post an opinion of theirs not related to the business in any way then that is their off the clock business. Even if I don't agree with what they post.

No, as long as it stays off my jobsite it doesn't really concern me.

Like others have said if it's nothing to do with the company or it's clients then no.

I don't have Facebook any more but it's a rule of mine not to add co workers or employers to a social network. My personal and professional life have a definite divide between them.

My Customers don't have that kind of access to my employee's info. I'd be very surprised if a client had enough info to even find them on social media. The client has plenty on me which is fine.

Re: Would You Fire Someone Because Of Social Media? (Swag Giveaway!)

I did once......

I had an employee talking negatively about one of my customers (Diary Industry), how he would never buy from them, and included graphic justification for his opinion, Apparently Milk spilled into loading dock leveler pits should not smell offensive to him.

He was fired, but would have been gone soon regardless. His willingness to share his opinion was not just a social media issue.

What they do on their own time is their own business to a certain point. Who I choose to represent me is my business, Anyone I think may not be a good representation of my companies values is not worth keeping around.

The bigger question is how to off load a clown like this without being his next cyber-bully victim

Re: Would You Fire Someone Because Of Social Media? (Swag Giveaway!)

For sure I would. I don't have employees right now, but when the time comes that I need them, I definitely will look at their social media accounts if available. I'm not going to risk the image of my company that I am working hard to build.

Besides, that information, if accessible by me, is accessible by anyone, making it public domain. If someone puts information about themselves in the public eye that can be negatively viewed, then it should be no surprise to them that it can affect their career.

Social media will play a part in my decision to hire or not for sure. And if an employee's behavior off work was reflecting poorly on the company then yes, I'd fire them.

I would surely do some snooping during the hiring process, but that doesn't always tell the full story.
I wouldn't fire anyone over social media unless it directly reflected on the company. I think most people are in the same boat here.

Here's one everyone needs to consider: worker is on a job, proud of what he's doing , and takes phone pics to show the world....one problem : has no consent from homeowner . just keep it in mind ..its a no no.

The word "unless" has meaning.

Lear to read, Rob.

Unless: they say something about a client and it got back to me, none of my business.

They say, man my boss is a dick, none of my business.

They say Mrs. " Caraway" is a bleep, that would have consequences.

There was a definitive statement made. The word none also had meaning. Either it is none or it is some, you can't have both.

It's disingenuous to say it's none of my business what they post on their personal time and then say but or unless.

I read it just fine. Just saying that what they say then is your business.

What you meant was the only thing you care about is.....

But it's only trult none of your business if none of it is. None being the key word.

Plus I'm just bustin your chops.

"None, unless." They can be used together to make one statement.

The one negates the other.

I have no apples, except for the one in my hand.

None means "not any"...the exception creates an "any". So they really can't be used together.

The word "unless" creates an exception. Just asked my wife, who has a masters in education. That was her input.

It's perfectly proper.

Right, but you can't have an exception to "none". It turns it into some. You can't have some and none occupy the same space. Like I said I either have none, or not any, of something or I have some.

Do you have any apples?

I have none, except this one in my hand.

See it doesn't make sense. You either have none of something or you have some of something.
