Sounds like bad planning to me. If you got all these jobs at one time, why wouldn't you knock out the small projects first and get materials ordered and on the way for the larger one? I know it's hind sight now, but would have done that to give me more preparation time on the larger project.

Option two would be, hire more help.

OK. First you said you wanted to get the small ones done to free up some time, then you said you wanted to get them done so you could get paid. Now you only have one worker, how much overhead could you possibly have to worry about getting paid on a small job or two? Later you said you had given her a completion date but you were already over that?? And you wonder why she's upset?? Very poor organization skills.

NEVER EVER START A PROJECT AND LEAVE IN THE MIDDLE TO START SOMEONE ELSE. Finish her and put the others on a delayed start.

Re: What Do You Guys Think?

It looks as though you are getting hammered pretty hard here.
I wish that there was a point that I could offer some defense but I got nothing.
This is one of those things that really does cast a bad light on our industry. It puts us in with the used car salesman stereotype and for good reason.
Seems like you thought you could put Granny on hold while you made a quick buck elsewhere. She seemed as though she would take it like a champ at first but after a couple weeks of thought she decided she deserved good service that was not there. I can't blame her for that.

if we ever expect our image to change we have to be committed to doing what we say we will do.
I know you think you did that but somewhere you fell short. Admit to yourself you screwed the pooch on this one and fix it the best you can. Getting pissy with Granny ain't the way out either.

i see this all the time. projects dragging on and on. roofers taking off shingles on one job and then going to another one. i never understood why. i know if i was the owner, i would be mad. we worked 14 hr days trying to get a huge metal roof job done, 35' sheets. it was rough, but we got it done on time.

This is why it is imperative that we don't put ourselves in such a predicament. Foresight beats behindsight every time.

It's called "spiking the job."

Where did all this granny crap
come from?
He said she was a widow.
Mom was a widow at 37.
A good friend at 23.
Widow and old aren't
always the same?

The guy is still acting the jerk.

I think that the term Granny gave the owner a more sympathetic image than HO. And using "widow" is no fun at all.
No one wants Granny to get the shaft

You are right though

Neither is granny and old. I know of 14 year old girls with children.
The math adds up to a possible 28 year old granny.
