Sad isn't it. Worse is the framer that goes and works for the guy. Anyone can post a stupid ad for ridiculous prices but if people answer the ad it's just awful.

... Ummm, what am I missing here? Is the $100 a day for a crew member too low in your area?

Lugnut1968:

I've got $100.00 that says his $100.00 a day is for a sub contractor 1099. So by the time the guys pays his income and self employment taxes, he's probably making six bucks an hour.

And we've got a multiple page thread here wondering why there's a shortage of tradespersons.

Re: What A Deal

I know loads of guys who would do that for $100 a day. But they don't have transport or tools, they drink like fish and they love a bit of crack pipe in the mornings. Oh yeah and they ain't got a clue how to frame and will have to do it in between shifts at Walmart.

Re: What A Deal

Ah, got ya. Sadly that is what a lot of the "framers" around here are doing man. Some are even as low as $80 a day. Which is why I am shocked I can't find guys who want to work when I say I will guarantee them a start as an employee at $12/hr and will bump them to $15/hr if they show they know half as much as they say they do over the phone.

Re: What A Deal

Sadly man we are still dealing with Jose', Julio and Juan around here too much for the prices to be what they should be for helpers. Which is why I can't understand why I can't find guys for 12-15 to start as employees. Sure, I could do like a lot of folks do and drive by the trailer park area hollering "Ocho"... but I just ain't that type of a person..

Re: What A Deal

It's cheap to live in this part of Michigan. Futher north even cheaper. There is a group of people that would do the $80 a day to push a broom. But only one day though. That's enough to buy smokes and beer for the week. Lol. Shoot deer out of season for food and the bridge card for the rest.

Re: What A Deal

Unfortunately this seems to be the way things are going now a days. I've seen job listings
Before where people want renovators, carpenters or other trades and are laying 12 an hour with 5 years min experience.

Here he Indians, not natives, have ruined the trucking industry with low prices like that because they will work for like 100 bucks a drop or minimum wage driving per hour.

Unfortunately, we live in a world where we all need to make a living and everyone's financial situation is not the same. People will go and work for that type of money, because they have their own expenses at home to pay.

Re: What A Deal

Thing is.This was not even like a craigslist post.I received this from beyond.com as a job lead.So the guy went to the trouble of filling out all the forms to make it a actual construction lead?
