What is this ?

Couple of you who live in my area might figure it out. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...d08d9b4b7b.jpg

First impression was a roof opening for a telescope (have seen them before). But the 3 panel on the lower section ruled that out.

It is over a garage, wonder if something is being craned in and out.

Looks like a gutter to me....

TxElectrician 01-10-2019 02:17 PM

Solar shingles?

Pretty sure there is living space over the garage. Never been in this house but have seen many similar set ups over the years.

You’re pretty close but nothing to do with a telescope

Solar water heater.

I know what it is because I used to work in your area doing energy audits.

Not very efficient to have a poorly sealed movable roof.

All this for a 7 day Jewish holiday where meals are eaten under the stars. Here are some other examples of this set up. https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...8a51f272dd.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...f029de3bfb.jpg

A slight step up from the huts I see in my area if that is the same holiday

Mort 01-10-2019 08:04 PM

Dang, that’s pretty cool. Maybe I should convert.

Some of the wealthier ones have a 10’x10’ skylight that opens in the middle. When I was younger many of the houses had a roof with wheels that rolled out on a track.
Majority still use this one set up on their back decks https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/201...9354123fe8.jpg

Many declare their homes a house of worship and avoid taxes.

Ground-to-air missile launch silo hatches.

I “worship” a lot of things in my house.

Most are unsuitable for polite conversation.

I figure that disqualifies me for a tax break..
And a government job....
And possibly blood transfusions.

Nice moonroofs though.
Thanks for posting. [emoji1417]

Screw that.

I’m going upstairs to start planning my new moonroof install.

Inspiration comes from many places. [emoji23]

Notice:
- cables coming out from the bottom corners
- what appears to be old sunlights on the side
- the loss of roof material below the panels where the rain runs and drops down to roof just above the gutter. So panels are usually in position during weather
- gutter would prevent panel from sliding down
- no room for a panel to slide left, and the right panel would overhang if slides right

So, middle panel probably slides up, or possibly all three

What cables ? Think what you’re seeing are the shingles cut on an angle
