Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

I have looked everywhere for a waterproof key management cabinet for some apartments we are building and I canít find one anywhere. I tried looking for safes as well that I may be able to modify to hang the keys up but no luck there either. What I want to do though is mount it on the side of one of the buildings so that way if I need to get a plumber or etc. in there Iím able to without having to drive all the way there just to unlock it. Any help would be great let appreciated thanks

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

Have the doors master keyed and then find a place to put just one key instead of 30 (or however many). It shouldn't cost that much to have it done.

That will make it much handier for you and your staff as well.

Milwaukee Jobsite organizer lined with a piece of plywood with key hooks attached to that? Pretty sure that you can lock those. Not so sure how ďsecureĒ they would be with the clear lid.

Something like that or the key boxes that realtors use would work as long as there aren't too many keys.

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

Thatís the problem I need something that would hold about 24 different sets of keys and prefer it to be organized separately... I have one inside of a garage on other rental properties but they are not waterproof and it needs to be able to keep the wrong people out

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

Re-purposed (exterior) Gun safe with easily resetable numeric codes?

new codes every week, so last weeks won't work....

Mail box of some kind?

Check out a car service center Jobber's catalog...

Staples has several options starting at ~20.00$

I personally find your purposed key security as a Tort factory if it is ever compromised. The service person gets a "master Key" or gets access to a box with EVERY key to the complex????

The weekend turd buster with the ankle monitor, just hired from the Half-way House??

The Knoxbox is your best bet but how do you get the Knoxbox key to the service person, just hand them out to all your regulars?

If you had a combination lock, same thing and what keeps someone from giving it to their crack head buddies?

Nope. I agree with @Fouthgeneration, manager has to get off his or her ass and be there for the service call to let them in. Do something for your money!

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

I would use I second box with a master key like realtors do but with a WiFi app for my phone... I have that part figured out but itís the organization of all keys in one box that is waterproof and tamperproof

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

Great thing about Knox is the flexibility. On a project I had in Denver a few years back the Knox had WiFi capability with electronic remote access control. It was located under an intercom camera. The property manager could allow access to the Knox box remotely with video feed verification. Pretty high tech.

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

Janssenbuild: the idea is that the house keys used during the sale of an EMPTY house will be changed by the new owners, Are you intending to swap locksets after every service call?

Masterkeys are handy, but massive liability side issues.

Your "Circle of Trust" doesn't match mine. "Meet the Fokkers"

Sure you do. What's to keep the crackhead from taking other keys, duplicating them then putting them back. Not like anybodies watching.

Furthermore, I don't think it's legal in most states for a landlord to allow someone access to an apartment unescorted. THIS IS A SIMILAR SITUATION

And by the way, not that it matters but the box doesn't have to be waterproof. Water won't hurt keys.

Re: Waterproof Key Management (apartments)

I wouldnít let anybody that I donít trust in the box and if someone wants in that bad they would get in and no it is not against the law for me to let my contractors in. I appreciate everyoneís advice and letting me know the bad things that could happen tho. The only reason I need it to be waterproof is because i number all my keys and I donít want the paper to get wet that numbers them. Plus I donít know if I really trust a safe that is outside that is not supposed to be outside and thatís why Iím leaning towards the Knox box

Use a number punch instead of paper to number them.
