Interesting you should bring that up. A few times lately I've found myself in conversation with potential clients and I'll hear something along the lines of "I got a quote from another guy, he said he can start later this week."

Now I don't know about the other parts of the country, but as I'm sure my fellow Michigan forum members can attest, if you are a legitimate builder or remodeler of any kind in this state right now, and you are NOT booked out several weeks, then you have a very good chance (not a guarantee, some guys just roll that way), but a very good chance of being a truly inept businessman. There is more work to be had here than can ever be satiated by the supply of legit contractors. You would have to be borderline flat-out engines-running-but-no-one-is-behind-the-wheel nuts to not be busy.

I do not trust any builder who is available "later this week." Not a tiny bit. In our current market, there's generally a reason for that.

Just for perspective, I have two new homes, two large remodels in a Industrial renovation, a boat dock and $150,000 worth of decks underway. If one of my clients or a close referral needed me to start a remodel next week I could do that, if by some mythical chance I had the availability to write a scope of work, selections packet and contract for that work.

I would say we are pretty sought-after in our market, and it is a decent Market.

I also have quite a bit of staff and subcontractors available to do that work.

Availability is but not necessarily dependent 100% on how good somebody is or is not. Imo.

Then again maybe I'm a hack lol

Re: Turning Down Jobs

I hate being "handled". It instantly puts me off. I'm thinking in my head you want it or don't you?

If you want it you'll get it but it should be on my terms....I'm the one doing it.

The people that make it difficult in the beginning usually make it difficult throughout...so I'm out
