Re: Tree Carving

That is a pretty amazing skill. Drawings or paintings are awesome but to carve away to form art is in a class of its own.

My plumber checked on having a tree on his placed carved and the going rate is $100/ft which in the big picture i thought was very reasonable.

Re: Tree Carving

There is a section in denver with old homes and some of the trees along the roads have been carved into smaller totem poles with bear heads etc.. that is truly amazing!

Re: Tree Carving

There was a house I would go by that the guy carved a mushroom out of a stump. It looked really stupid, he finaly cut it down.

Re: Tree Carving

Not bad. We have a few thingies like that around here. Mostly bears, eagles and the like. Have one made to look like a nice lady. That one is old. I'd take pictures but I feel weird walking into some strangers yard to take pictures of their stuff. Maybe I can sucker my son into doing it...

Re: Tree Carving

Its fairly common to see stumps cut into bears or eagles around here, although most of the time it is a log that has been cut and placed on a stump. There are some guys around here who do awesome work and there are what i would call hacks. There is one fella who lives next to "mrmike" who does very good work, one of his best works i have seen is a bear laying on its back with its paws up holding a glass table top.
I was at a party many years ago and a fella from NJ has brought a carved bear with him here to NY and he had built 2 beer taps into the bear. The spouts exited the stomach and the handles were made out of carved trout. It stood a good 7' and about 3'wide. It was his first carving and i must say it was great. I dont know if he ever made anymore but damn he sure should of.

Figures, they can charge $100/hr and $368 to put a toilet in but to have someone come by and spend hours making a piece of art for everyone to admire for decades for $500-600 is just outrageous.

Totally cool carving.

Warrington is in the north-west of England inbetween the citys of Manchester and Liverpool.
Bridlington is on the east coast in east Yorkshire which is about 160miles from Warrington.
Hope that helps
Dave
