Thieves

Had an interesting day. I was in Lowes when I heard over the PA, requesting the person driving a vehicle that matched the description of my truck to come to the service desk.
I知 thinking oh Sh*t, someone hit my truck. No that wasn稚 it. The manager me told another contractor witnessed someone steal 3 tool bags from my truck. I meet the other contractor & he took me to the car that the guy put bags in. I look inside & there they are. I could not call 911 fast enough.
While I知 on the phone with PD the guy returns to his car. He freaks & get this he throws his car keys at me (like a girl) & runs. I知 still on with PD give them a description of the guy. The PD gets him. Then I知 waiting for the PD to come back so I can file a report. I another person shows up & tries to get into the car. I tell her that her buddy is in the cop car, she then freaks & runs away, PD got her too.
Now they both are charged with felony theft, assault, &fleeing Law Enforcement. Also Lowes file charges against them for stealing a toilet seat. Now the best part they lost their car (2010 Chevy) because it was used it the commission of a felony.
I got all my tools back.
And that was my morning.

Good to hear you got your tools back. Lucky that other guy was looking out for ya. Bet they will both be out stealing again inna few weeks though. Anyone who steals a mans tools he uses to feed his family deserve to be looked up for a long time.

Yep. Good on this guy. I hope you can hook up for some jobs together. (Did you get his info? Sounds like an honest guy) I've met some subs in more unusual circumstances that even this who turned out to be great allies.

For the most part, us legitimate contractors do tend to look out for each other. (Notwithstanding THIS site where we pretty much ALL do) Our common enemies are the cheap hacks who underbid us, screw up everything, collect the check and disappear.

I will always wave a guy in a work truck in front of me in traffic and blow off the beyotches in their Lexus in a hurry to get their Starbucks.

Re: Thieves

When my husband and I first moved into our new house in Burke, VA (not a bad area except for random **** heads), he had to park his van on the neighborhood street since the HOA didn't allow vehicles with ladder racks. That night, some inconsiderate assholes popped his locks with screwdrivers and stole about $2,500 worth of tools..air compressor, saw zaws, drills, cordless nail guns, etc! That was a terrible month of busting our asses even harder to get the money back to buy new tools and thankfully Christmas was just around the corner.
3 months later after he's installed cages on the windows and padlocks on the doors, the same guys pop his passenger side door locks with a screwdriver! Since the cargo is caged, they saw out the cage that separated the driving area from the cargo area and stole another $1000 worth of tools out! Okay, this is bad 1st time, shame on them and then 2nd time shame on us. We get that, but really?!
So he took the ladder racks off, parked the van in front of the house and just the other night the guys popped his driver side locks with a screw driver and didn't find **** because, HAHA, we've cleaned out the van! and from now on after every project or anytime he comes home with tools, he takes them out....suckers. I suggest he just leave his van unlocked and leave a note on the seats saying "Sorry about your luck this time"
Btw- insurance wouldn't cover it and the police say all they can do is put it on file. My friend is a cop and he said he would have fingerprinted the van the second time if he was on duty!!
