Showdown At The OK Corral - Aka My Warehouse Location

Showdown and drama at the warehouse........a cornucopia of BS taking up my time and thought processes. As usual this is long with descriptive interpretation. It is also a lesson in how to handle customers and vendors.

History: Two months ago I asked one of our warehouse neighbors, who is a Mexican Landscape Gardener, if he and his crew would be able to do some minor work at my wife's duplex rental--pull out all weeds, spray the left over weeds, get rid of the dead plants and general clean up of a very small, 1/2 front yard of one side (15ft x 36ft, no lawn). He said ok....$150 for the initial, then $40 per visit x 2 per month. I said ok, the sooner the better, give me the invoice, or, leave it at the duplex door/mail box.

5 weeks later, he or one of his guys shows up for 2 hours, pulls out most of the weeds, plus some planted plants. Trims the small hedge (3ft sq), leaves the dead plants, pulls out the drip watering hoses, still leaves about 20% of the weeds.

Never saw him again, no return to clean up or finish, no invoices anywhere. I call him twice, no response. BTW: he has my card, email and phone numbers.

Now I'm in charge of cleaning up and finishing the job.

2 weeks after the landscaper was there, still no word from him, and, I haven't seen him at all at our warehouse location. But, I do run into the dead beat, living out of his van, painter who hangs around most of the day at the warehouses. He asks me how the gardener did, I tell him I wasn't too happy, and, my wife is not happy either with the job that was done. I wouldn't have said anything, but I talk to this loser painter when I'm there and he kept bugging me about the gardening (did he do a good job, was it complete, would I recommend him, etc) .

What's going on now.....so finally I see the landscaper at the warehouse....he is busy polishing one of his new large vehicles, in this case it was an Escalade (he has a least $140K in new stuff). I go over and ask what happened ?

This guy is pissed...and I realize his English is not so good. Apparently the painter told him a version of the "I wasn't happy with the job" discussion. Now the landscape guy is telling me to get lost, he doesn't want to talk about it. He is giving me this Mexican Machismo act of how I'm not respecting him and so forth. He doesn't want to give me an invoice or deal with me again.

2 days after my brief encounter with the landscaper, the painter stops by my unit and chews me about of how unprofessional I am and how my wife is a bitch. And then tells me how I won't be in business for long behaving the way I am.

Nice - can't get along with everyone.

F 'em.

I see no real valid reason to patch this up.

I agree. Like I told my wife, I'm not going to deal with grade school immature behavior. This is a kid fight I'm not getting involved with.

Before all this, we all got along....basically waving at each other. Except for the painter who always wants to discuss his version of politics, or, put down minorities, especially Mexicans (just like the landscaper).

Maybe in different situations.

But this one looks like a lost cause. If others where to take the word of the painter and the landscaper over the word of cwatbay, they probably aren't the types of customer he would be seeking.

Just speculation.
