Sheathing Option To Cover Old Corrugated Metal Siding For Penthouse Roof

We are working on a rooftop project in New York and are looking for a sheathing option to cover some rather unattractive corrugated metal siding. Since the corrugated metal siding is still functional, the building engineer for the condo will not permit the client to remove and replace with all new siding. We are going for a very clean, modern look. Has anyone worked with any sheathing options that can be applied on top of the existing siding? Any other thoughts or suggestions to improve the aesthetics? We also considered installing a metal or ipe fence, but we are not enthusiastic about creating additional penetrations in the roof membrane.

I have been looking at Nichiha Panels for a project I am planning. I haven't used them yet but I did go look at a few projects with them last week. So far I am impressed. You might be able to use them directly over the steel because they all mount to tracks.

The Nichiha panels are interesting. I looked at their website, and the panels only seem to be available in southern states (not NY). I like the track system, though and wonder if there any other lightweight panels that could be installed that way.

As for paint, we did consider that, but not 100% sure how it would hold up to the weather of if it would compromise the siding in terms of corrosion resistance.

Metal siding can be painted and hold up.

If you want to put something over the too, you can usually fur it out and wind up with a rain screen.

EIFS is another option.

It looks to be maybe galvanized in which case it needs to be prepped first, normally an etching of some sort so the paint will adhere and last.

Agreed. I didn't want to guess what it would take.

with what's at stake, reputation, liability, warranty etc, hire an engineer or architect to spec materials and attachment.
