Qualifying Experience

Thank you in advance for you input. I figure I ask here first before resorting to the state regulation board. Not sure if this is the case for other states, but in my state, building official and inspector can verify work experience. Two years is required for the contractor license application, but can be three or five years, depending on which class the application is for.

License is required to perform work for someone else, but not necessary for one own home. Correct me if I am wrong, but does this mean that work to one own home, requiring filing permit with the city and be inspected qualifies as work experience for the licensing application? Appreciate the help.
