Donít worry about it, your wife will most likely get the garage in the divorce and then itís her problem.

Because I hate throwing out material. My back right wall is where I keep scrap plywood drops. They get put up there faster than I use them. But I do use them, especially for jigs and hold downs. As soon as I clear it out I need stuff.

I have a 2x8' table that is a crap collector and I really need to get rid of that. But the problem is where to I put it. The crap can go up on the hardware shelf because that's what it is mostly. But the table itself is pretty heavy and It's not like I have another 16 sf area I can put it and I can't throw it away because when I need it (which I do on occasion), I need it.

I've made 3 large drawers and I've been able to put all my routers and a bunch of other stuff in there that I use to store on the floor (can't fall off the floor)

To the right of the tablesaw is a disaster. My tablesaw gets used as a top sometimes and sometimes I get upset with the mess on top and just push it to the right, hence the disaster. That could be cleaned up.

I call those goat paths. When you have to bob and weave though the tools, woodwork and materials. It sucks, but you know that you are busy when it gets like that.

Don't kid yourself.

I did a big purge several years ago. Out of all the things that I threw out and in all the years since there has been only ONE 50 cent hardware item that I had to go buy because I got rid of the one that I had.

This is true. Usually when I do the purge , I find all that stuff I couldn't find when I needed it.

I took some pics of the disaster this morning when I walked in the shop.

It's worse than I thought.

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

Ohhhh you know what though! I had an old belt on my edge sander that I was going to change so I sharpened a 2" chisel with it so there's that. Otherwise I brought in more of a mess...

It needed changed anyhow. I wanted to see how sharp I could get a chisel using a table and guides. Pretty top notch to tell you the truth for being a worn out belt.

When I bought the sander I got 4 belts with it and haven't changed it so I decided I would do it today being as I'm supposed to be purging stuff.

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

I tossed a bunch of stuff today, junk out of the mechanic toolbox and junk that was sitting on shelves.

Itís tough to keep the place clean in the summer cause weíre so busy, stuff gets left wherever. In the winter thereís all kinds of shop projects so it turns into a sawdust factory.

Since I picked up a dump trailer the place stays cleaner because it sits at home a lot so Iím always tossing junk in it.

Tonight I made it wide enough for two goats walking abreast of each other. This weekend I'm aiming for a pregnant donkey trail.

I covered all the windows with shelving so no one could break in. Seemed like a good idea at the time

Why would someone break into a place full of stuff you don't need?

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

Yeah, I really need to work on my garage. I'm a couple days behind starting built ins because I don't have room to work yet.

Yesterday and this morning I got one of those resin sheds set up to hold all the kid related things that were in the garage, so that cleared out some stuff.

I've had a furnace in my garage for 4 years that I plan on turning into a negative air machine for job sites.

Time to go get lunch then keep on working on it

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

In your case it's has to get much worse before it gets better. I had that in the 2nd bay of my shop. It was bad and then while I was organizing it was a major disaster. But I had to bring it all out into the open to see what went where and what went gone.
