I can't think if there is a mess or things are not organized. I try to take care of things as I go. So if there is a place for something, when I, or my guys, are done, it gets put back. I have posted picks of my van before. Here is my shop (garage).

The first couple are after a routine cleaning. The last one is of the shop in use.

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

I am about a week ahead of this. I got the interior of my new shop finished, moved everything over from the old shop, and purged a few things already. No way will I have it all done by labor day, but my intentions are to keep it tidy, and get rid of useless crap.

Tried to upload some pics, but I keep getting errors.

That dude needs a purge weekend more than I do (I already got him working out of rolling tool boxes and I hear he likes it!)

Everyday the tools get put away, benches get cleaned, items being worked on are placed neatly, floor gets vacuumed. Not only does this alley to the help, it applies to me also, I do my best to lead by example.

The shop is a work in progress, need to make more shelves and cabinets so I can get the items out of the bins.

I think I have the sharpened covered. Each of the TS Systainers (I have 4 TS saws) also has 2 sharpened blades in them, 2 sharpened blades are kept with the Kapex, 1-60 tooth and 1-80 tooth.

Start small, everyday throw the garbage out from the cab of your truck, once you can doo that pick a small area in the shop and work on that. There will be a lot of moving around of stuff but keep with it. Eventually you'll get it.

Biggest thing, don't say I'll do it tomorrow. Even when we had the rush for the Parade of Homes, the shop had to be taken care of.

There is alot of things slowing me down in the workshop. The bulk of it is mess of useless crap I will maybe use one day.......sort of......wait.......I still have one of those? Piles of used saw blades I'm going to use again. Next to a pile of new ones. Who am I kidding! Some day I'm going to straighten this mess put right? (Another year later I say it again)

So who's up for a deadline and a challenge?

Labor day weekend is just a bit away. So who else is willing to purge, sharpen and reset workshop/trucks by the end of labor day? (If you have family plans for then you can do it anytime now finishing before the weekend starts)

Purge and donate crap you haven't used in more then a year and is less then 25-50 bucks to replace (let's be honest you just buy a new one for the next job anyway) get rid of that ratty old extension cord with more electrical tape on it then original sheathing.

Label the things worth keeping and put them in a box that you can find by looking at the label instead of digging around for an hour the day of the project.

Sharpen/maintenance of most often used tools. Clean em up. Stop holding onto the old crappy hand tools you keep around . The old concrete trowel you were going to replace the broken handle on. The screwdriver with the broken tip or handle. The cheap azz hand saw with the plastic handle from harbor freight that you've used twice in 9yrs. If you have newer ones put them into play and out with the older one.

Organize what's left. Ten half opened boxes of screws or nails. Put them in one box. Refill the field boxes (parts organizer bins you always have with you). Put all the tape in one box. And so on.

Who's up for a challenge?
Uuuuuuh... no thanks.

Re: Purge And Sharpen Challenge....

I'll play. I've been working in the shop the past few weeks and it's been driving me crazy.

Pin gave me his horizontal disease. I've started a really bad process of whenever I fill up a table with stuff I'm working on, I just slap together a new table

I have a regular rotation of blades to be sharpened and it's about time for them anyhow. I also still need to hook up the big compressor and the mortise machine so it will give me incentive. Tons of random fittings that need to be organized and I haven't swept in like 2 weeks. Miter saw bench needs to be set up and I need some doors next to the table saw cabinets. Lots to do, but I'll give it a whirl.

Can't promise anything though.

Someone is coming to get the last of her stuff on Saturday........praying for calm storm there.

As bad as it sounds the house is pretty empty so I can temporarily put things in the house to make more room to work in the garage. I have a couple stacks of empty tool boxes I have yet to organize. So those can be set in the house out of the way till it's time to shift them back. I just need some dancing space to get the party started.

I have an excuse. The door to my garage came off it's track and the spring cable broke. I can't get in there at this point.

It's been that way for over a year now. I should probably fix it.
