OK Which One Of Us Put The Garage In The Wrong Spot?

http://gma.yahoo.com/home-built-torn...-and-home.html

"The new Southampton, N.Y., home of Eric and Margaret Friedberg was almost half completed when they decided to tear it down and start over because the garage was in the wrong spot. "

I usualy dont post stuff like this off of Yahoo but this one needs a look, to me I think some concessions could have been made but the people are former FEDERAL WORKERS........and like our gov dont mind excess and waste.

I hope no one here had a part in this and has to eat the cost

Let it fly fellas

Guess they learnt well from our fine government . What a waste. Kind of makes you wonder where the owners where at when this got built, and why it took so long to figure out.

Looks to me that the 1% work for the government. So why doesn't somebody occupy it ?????

Common in my area. They wont pay for a survey, but have no problem building the garage and then paying again to move it off the neighbors property.

Re: OK Which One Of Us Put The Garage In The Wrong Spot?

I don't know. If I was having a 2 million dollar house built they better put the garage in the right spot. If they get it wrong they need to fix it. Of course when they were pouring the foundation I probably would have noticed. However, some people can't see things until they are built which is why they hire a builder to take care of the details.
The story doesn't say who's fault it was so you really can't bash the owner's without more info.

The owners were on vacation, and returned to find the house partially built in the wrong location. Ultimately, it's the GC's fault.

He should have known better than to take a job for a pair of lawyers.

Why do I get the feeling the owners knew where everything was going and were told everything "on paper", but then when they actually saw it they changed their minds.

Re: OK Which One Of Us Put The Garage In The Wrong Spot?

I can see how this might happen. Architect or GC gets a previous pricing set mixed up with the approved plans, distributes to subs, everybody starts building from that set. Presto!

Probably something that could have been caught at any stage but a perfect coincide of factors happened. I would like to hear more so I can learn from others mistakes.

Wow you'd think they could finish it with some standard upgrades and then sell it for a medium profit and build just down the street with a few extra perks. I wonder what karma holds for the too busy lawyers.

The sad thing is, that you can look up the size and cost of their house, like that should be public information. I never understood why I have to put a valuation on my permit, its no ones business but mine.

Re: OK Which One Of Us Put The Garage In The Wrong Spot?

I spent a couple of weeks as a kid working as a rodman. We laid out this building:

https://maps.google.com/maps?q=shell...,0.001725&z=19

Unfortunately the field engineer missed it by four feet to the west. A couple of hundred stakes and my aching back is all it cost, but one more day and the pier drilling would have been started.
