New Shop Project, You Might Say "crossing Trades" -I'm Fixing A "BIG" Box. Rush Job!

So right across from my shop is a family owned produce supplier. They run a few trucks everyday 4-5 depending on the routes.

Well unfortunetly the owner got rearend last week in there largest box truck.
Putting it down until repaired.
He's been renting a uhaul type van, and at .99 cents a mile @ 200-300 miles per day, he said its killing him.

I went over today to see what was going on. Insurance is being slow, he needs a truck yesterday.

Long story short, I got the repair job.

I'm going to put a low budget repair job on this box, so he can get it back on the road.

I'm pretty well equiped to do this kind of work, soo it really shouldn't be to bad.
I like fabricating type work, and I like shop work.

Feedback welcome, as always.

There's something you don't see on a resume every day.

Looks like it will be fun.

Just make sure that insurance is done with inspections and photos before you start. Last thing you want to do is void his claim by tampering with the truck before they say it's ok to.

Have fun, post pics.

Mill Supply (step van catalog) is a resource for some of the parts you'll need-all the door stuff for sure and rivets for the panels/walls. Not sure about the mill work-I would check out a large metal yard (if you have a good one to walk around in).

good luck!

So I went ahead and got started, worked on it up until around dark.
I wanted to get some of it straightened out, remove some of the debri's, then rethink whats left.

I cheated a little.

Unfortunetly it was, it was a small truck that drove up under the back.
It tore the a pillar, and ripped the roof back.

And as much as I hate to say it, a 13 year old girl riding with her mother passed away

The driver of the box truck was sitting at a red light, he said he thought it was just a fender bender from the feel, then got out and saw what happened.

Witnesses stated that the driver never attempted to stop.

It was an upsetting accident all the way around.

Not much really got hurt as far as the door.
All the track rollers popped out all over the road, and the door was left hanging by the cables.
The firemen cut the cables, and put door inside.
If I can get the frame halfway right, and square, the door should work out.

Well, that's kinda like remodeling.

Cool project, it's nice to see something different on the forum for a change.

Yep,

I only fix personal tires though

It will have to stay pooped out till it gets to firestone.

Thats one positive advantage to a dually rearend.

Thats a really horrible story. I hope it wasn't a family member that was in the driver's seat.
