Re: New Calif. Tax

I received this notice about a week or so ago. The 1% fee will be automatically charged by lumber sellers. If you get your lumber from across state lines, it says you're supposed to send the 1% assessment directly to the Board of Equalization. Should add a few hundred dollars onto the price of a home. I guess they're not overpriced enough in CA.

I just got my notice. Registration fee is only $69, but the weight fee is $154! Then there's the license fee and the county fee. $286 total this year. I think it's less than last year though. What I can't figure out is why I need to smog my truck again, when I just had it smoged last year. I thought it was every two years?

2005. Last year was the first time I had to smog it. Just got my notice and I see that they want it smoged again.

There are reasons why this state is so populated and it has nothing to do with the state government.

I actually read a article a month or so ago and there are other states that tax more then Calif. I'll have to see if I can find it.

It is supposed to be every two years. I know if you previously failed a test then you are considered a gross polluter and are basically on their chit list requiring annual testing (I have a vehicle in this category). But you stated it was your first time last year. Was it a borderline passing?

I even had to smog test my 2002 diesel for the first time last year. Visual inspection only for now until the air quality management board can agree upon the pass and fail limits for diesels. I told my smog guy I will just run biodiesel for the test to guarantee a pass. He said they have already planned for people doing that and will be drawing fuel out of the tank to verify fossil or bio fuel.

My 99 F 250 was a gross polluter and it still only requires smog every other year.

Your lucky! Mine is a 1994 530i. Might have something to do with counties and zip codes.

Re: New Calif. Tax

Truth be told, I had to have mine checked at a Gold Smog station. It was in bad shape. I don't think that it had ever passed smog without needing something.

Anyway's there was a program where the state paid for all the repairs. I just had to pay for the certificate. This was about 3 years ago. Last year it actually passed the first time.

I doubt they would pay these days. I heard they're tightening their grip on mediCAL for procedures even.

I got the same love letter in the mail today.

I can't believe it didn't even come with an explanation on what the funds are earmarked for.

In state manufacturing takes another hit on the chin

Something else I forgot to mention, I was in Las Wages earlier this year January, So I thought Id check out prices at a local lumber company. I went to Peterson Lumber and checked on the price of 3/4 shop birch. It was about $3-$5 cheaper then I get for i Calif. No biggie some would say but I thought the stuff come in to LA then is trucked all the way to the middle of the desert and its still cheaper.

Just shows you how expensive Kalif is and its getting more.

This is BS.

California needs to generate more revenue someway.

They are talking about sending people a bill for leaving the state. Their thinking is that if you leave and the state has a deficit then you helped accumulate that deficit because it was last years taxes so you will need to pay your part. This is no chit they are really kicking this around.
