Re: Never Had This Happen Before

I make it a policy to never say anything bad about another company, no matter what. IT reflects badly on us, and you never know when karma can rear it's ugly head.
In this instance, however, I made an exception because it's so laughable. He bad mouths us, yet who is the one with a criminal record? Besides. We didn't really say anything. Sort of. We just sent her the link. I didn't try to resurrect the lead. Like some of you mentioned, she's likely to be a difficult client anyway, and go knows we don't need many of them!

Avoid the 20 % that are Devils, try to market to the 20% that are "angels", easy going honest, pay in a timely fashion....

Stay away from the frequent flyers at Civil Court... Run a check on any job you can't write off 100%, Momma, Poppa and any partners, and in their last city/state.

I'm friends with my competition. We meet every year at the summit. There's plenty of work for everyone.

I have to agree. It just good policy to never run down other peoples work as a contractor. The customer should do that and if the situation is such that I'm seeing the work and it's substandard I do my best to hold my tongue and refrain from joining in. Sets a negative tone and I'm trying to make a sale. So I just reply "what is it you'd like us to do?"

For someone to run you down when they know nothing about you is real underhanded. Couldn't sell yourself without diminishing your competition? It can get cut throat out here and I've seen worse things happen

Who has time to worry about their competition? Even if you could find the time to figure out their pricing, what are you going to do, lower yours or raise your price to match them or charge what you need to be in business?

If you can't get what you need to charge to be in business, and are going to work for wages (or less) in some misguided attempt to "be competitive" go work for someone else who has figured out how to... a lot less stress...

Better off using that time/energy on finding ways to extract money from your own business...

If the competition is talking trash about you, you must be doing something right. Your quality work output will speak for itself

Re: Never Had This Happen Before

If this person continues to talk trash about you and your company, dont forget about your legal options.

As others have stated, allow your reputation and your work do the talking. Do not engage this person, or reach out.

If you see him at the lumber yard, dont be afraid to ask him what his beef is.

But avoid the confrontation if you can, many of folk, love drama, and if theres not enough, theyll purposely create more.
