Never Again

Will I work for a contractor building their own house....Told him yesterday he was going to be short shingles

Told him at least 6 square, I will know better by the end of the day, next thing you know he is screaming on the phone demanding things.

The supplier (wimsatt) messed up on the material take off, I told him today it was going to take about 4 more sq, so he gets all pissed off because he was an ass hole to the supplier and didn't want to call them again.

Anyway he goes into you're the one who does this everyday, I don't want to spend more money on it, etc, etc

I told him I can't measure with my eyes.

He said if he has to spend more money on materials he is taking it off my bill

I said you can't do that

He said I can do whatever the **** I want to do

I said you short my bill I will lein your ****ing property

His eyes got as big as plates and his jaw hit the ground...lol

He says looking completely bewildered. .., you'll lein my property?

I said you're damn right I will.

Now he is all apologetic and sorry, "I don't mean to take it out on you, blah blah"

This guy is severely bi polar I think. Thinks everybody's world revolves around his project. He is a jack ass every morning, and nice at the end of the day, been there all day the past 2 days.

It is his and his wife's fault I say, when they shopped the job at 3 or 4 suppliers and when one comes in some I would imagine 1300 cheaper instead of 3 or 400, they obviously missed something.

Sounds like a prick. If he is just paying you labor how can he get mad at you for his materials being short...finish and RUN!

That's what I'm doing, almost told him I'm at 75%, pay 75% of my bill and find another roofer

I'm glad he went with someone else for his siding, I would've had to opt out if he had picked me

I could see if you ruined some of his shingles and asked him to buy more. This jackwagon should be glad that you aren't OVER-estimating and leaving him with a load of extra material that he has to take back.

But the one thing that drives me nuts is when they want to call the shots, scrutinize your recommendations, and then hold you responsible for their bad decisions. When they say, "You're the one that know this stuff" what they are really saying is, "You should have been able to transfer all of your knowledge and wisdom to me in a few short sentences."

Yep, wimsatt delivered 32 sq initially, I asked him what the other quotes were. I measured 41sq with my tape today, other supplier quoted 44sq, and told him on the phone when I was looking at the print it was about a 40 sq job

Re: Never Again

I will have to take a pic tomorrow of the windows he put in....they are going to fail inspection. He installed them before the housewrap. Nail in every flange hole and caulked all the way around onto the OSB. No way they come out without getting completely wrecked.

Re: Never Again

Isn't that legal if he tapes around the window? Not the way I would do it, but I don't doubt it has happened on an individual window at some point in my career.

Re: Never Again

Is he planning on putting blueskin or a similar product over the flanges?

Re: Never Again

He's building his own house and cannot be bothered to do the bare minimum? That's funny.

How would that generate positive drainage?
