My Wife Is The Worst Customer I've Ever Had

I'm sure you can sympathize...

Just remodeled a bathroom and the nagging, the questions (all pretty dumb), and the constant complaining about "tools being everywhere"... My God...It's torture...

She also decided that she wanted the guest bedroom turned into more a den setup. Fine. I bought a couch. It gets delivered today a 7AM (no typo) and she decides the walls need to be painted. By 7:15 I have mud out and am starting to fix some brutally poorly done patches from the previous owners. By the time she leaves for work at 8:20, she tells me the color she wants. 3:00 rolls around and I have every wall painted except where I did the patching and she comes in and says the color isn't right. I would say that I provide pretty good service.

I bought the paint so it's my fault she doesn't like the color and wants me to repaint it. The queen of second-guessing!

Just a rant. I love her but it drives me nuts!!!!

Greg, I hope you feel better.
But shouldn't you be repainting it right now. She will be back home soon. ......

Make her pick out the paint and if she says no, then tell her the color you picked out looks pretty good, get use to it.

Or just paint it whatever color you want, move in a nice TV, stereo, beer fridge, & maybe a pool table. Hang some photos on the walls that you find cool & turn it into a Man Cave.

She probably has better taste than you and in the long run repainting it is for the better. What were you thinking picking out a paint color anyways? I learned that lesson before we even owned a home.

Mine generally goes: 3 years of planning (i.e. me procrastinating) then done in a day.

Re: My Wife Is The Worst Customer I've Ever Had

You need to re-write your change order doc. for this one.

White out the dollar per hour sum and add..... "special compensation due upon significant completion of said change".

EDIT: Anyway you got nothin' to complain about. After trimming out the house with stained pine I did the bathroom (by her orders) to match the cherry in the cabinetry.... yup you guessed it, she now wants the rest of the house cherry.

I can definitely relate. My wife is constantly on my back to finish some drywall I started last May!! All that needs to be done is final sanding, and paint...geeeeesh! Women?

The funny thing is it was same day service!!! If I didn't have to skim 1/3 of one of the walls, it would have been 100% done by the time she got home!

I keep telling her..."believe it or not, people DO pay me for this. I kind of know what I'm doing."

Re: My Wife Is The Worst Customer I've Ever Had

Well Greg, I'd say you have a great wife.

I spent nine years planning and saving to build our dream house. 3 bedrooms, 2.5 baths, 2 car garage, whirlpool tub, open foyer, vaulted LR ceiling, inset glass balcony and stair rails, about 1200 sq. ft. ceramic tile floors, travertine fireplace wall, lots of feature windows, 9' basement walls, blah blah blah....

We weren't there 6 months and I hear "I want to put on an addition for a 4th bedroom, we need a deck and I want to fence in the back yard for a pool.

"4th bedroom for what?"

"I want to have another baby."

I'd say your wife is a saint Greg.

BTW, the house was sold 18 months after we moved in because she wanted a divorce... all I did was work and spend time with my kids in the yard. She felt unloved.

Couldn't you have sold her and kept the house instead?

Nope. She wasn't worth enough to pay off her credit card debt.
